In the world of custom truck publishing, we can see a truck from 100 feet and tell you if it’s a “slam dunk” or not. The term slam-dunk references a truck’s stance, paint, and wheel/tire combo -- or simply stated as the “it” factor. As a photographer, once you see a truck with each of the customization boxes checked, your first thought is where is the owner and how soon can I get this thing shot? Thankfully, this colossal Ram HD is owned by longtime friend of the magazine, Travis Reif of The Custom Shop, in Las Vegas. The builder and owner of several magazine features over the last 10 years, Travis is no stranger to understanding what it takes to turn heads and draw attention to the capabilities of his talented team. His latest project is a Sin City slam-dunk.
Photo 2/9   |   Both axles were painted black to help make the red suspension kit pop. In the rear, you can also see the Mag-HyTech diff cover and Firestone helper airbag kit for improved towing performance.
Starting with an off-the-lot Ram HD Mega Cab, Travis and his crew of installers quickly got to work stripping the truck of its factory suspension. Replacing what the factory found adequate is an 8-inch long-arm lift kit from Full Throttle Suspension (FTS) complete with FTS 2.0 shocks. With an increase in ride height, The Custom Shop added 22x14 Fuel Throttle wheels and 37-inch Toyo tires. After cruising around Vegas like this for a few months, Travis did what so many people in Sin City do -- he went all-in. Off came the suspension, wheels and tires, and the truck was delivered to Chris Shelton of Shelton Designs. It was time to take things to the next level.
A paint scheme designed to look fast sitting still was devised and Chris masked off the streaking lines in preparation of the House of Kolor Blue Blood Red, Orion Silver, and Black. With the body sprayed, the Fuel Throttle wheels were disassembled and custom painted with the hoops receiving matching black, while the spokes were coated in red with silver accents. The look is spot-on and easily distinguishes Travis’ HD from other lifted Rams. Each component of the Full Throttle Suspension was powdercoated red and black with chrome FTS shocks, including an oversized 2.5 coilover replacing the original black unit. FTS was also sourced for the dual steering stabilizer. Chrome-plated bolts add show points while red LED lighting was placed throughout the undercarriage to mimic the Strip’s nighttime antics.
Inside the Mega Cab, a simple and functional interior make transporting the family in style an easy task. Two-tone leather and suede seats add elegance, and a full audio system with two 12-inch Kicker subs behind the rear seat that makes the HD sound better than a concert on Fremont Street. Suede also found its way onto the headliner and visors.
It only took a few months for Travis’ Ram to go from showroom stock to Custom Shop approved. Much like a Hollywood starlet on a weekend getaway raising eyebrows in Sin City, this incredible all-star HD does what it wants, when it wants, where it wants.
