1998 Chevrolet S-10 - The Daily Dime

Project Daily Dime Is Complete!

You die-hard Mini Truckin’ readers might remember “Project Daily Dime” from a while back, where we did a few tech articles covering the basics of airbagging and laying out an S-10 with the help of Needful Thingz. The owner of this 1998 Chevrolet S-10 is no stranger to the pages of Mini Truckin’ or Truckin magazine, as he’s built quite a few feature vehicles and even had a MT cover truck over a decade ago.
Paul Moffat set out to build a reliable and clean cruiser when he picked up this ’98 Dime for a killer deal. With one phone call (thanks, Mike A!) that all went out the window and a complete build was lined out. As we all know, one thing leads to another and eventually Paul was in deep with a two-year project build turned full show truck.

But hey, what are friends for, right? So after we talked Paul into letting us use his truck in a tech article series we teamed up with Thorbecke Bros. and Lukaz at Needful Thingz to help bring it to life. The suspension was brought to a respectable height via Dominator airbags and the complete Thorbecke Bros. front and rear air suspension kits. Out back, we opted for the Bolt-In Super Pivot setup to get plenty of travel for the 22-inch KMC Slides shrouded in Toyo rubber, which soon found a home on Daily Dime.
Once the suspension and proper ground-hugging height was dialed in, the fun began. After cruising it for a bit, Paul realized he wanted to complete the look and opted for a full interior and exterior overhaul. His buddies over at AR Auto Body helped create a classy yet custom two-tone paint scheme and after a few months, Daily Dime was looking a little more fancy and getting ever closer to that “show truck” status that Paul was trying to avoid with his build this time around. But like we said, one thing leads to another and when you’ve been around customs this long, it’s only a matter of time before things get out of hand.
Seeing his truck now gathering those thumbs up from passersby, Paul figured, “What the heck, already pretty much there anyway, might as well go all the way.” So with a few phone calls, a complete stereo system was on the way from PowerBass and the interior and stereo were given a complete show-worthy makeover. With the cabin soon matching the rest of the class and style with a bit of custom thrown into the mix, Paul also opted to dial in the engine bay and spruce things up under the hood. A few polished and painted pieces, a custom-built shroud from Sadistic Iron Werks and some clean up, and the engine bay was better than new.
A little over two years into the build and Paul was finally able to do what he intended with the truck from the get-go: drive it!
