As it turns out, we are often led in the direction we belong. Growing up in Monterey, California, Todd Chezem instantly fell in love with the truck culture. "In 1979 I laid eyes on a Chevy stepside," Todd says. "It all snowballed from there." With his mentality mostly geared toward the lowered look, every single truck he purchased was brought to the ground. Then, things changed for him. California became routine, and he started to become complacent.
He decided to pack up and head to Texas, settling in the small town of Marion right outside of San Antonio. The job market was better, and opportunities seemed to be perfect for him. Todd started a customizing shop called Drop Down Kustomz. It was there that he met his now fiance, Alicia, who happened to cruise by in a lowered truck. She had a Chevy four-door that sparked Todd's search for one as well.

As luck would have it, three hours away in Houston he found what he was looking for. A '07 Chevy Silverado that had been partially completed and needed some TLC. Todd eagerly brought it back to his shop and added his own personal touches. Chaotic Customs mastered body and suspension by building a 2x4 boxed frame from front to rear. Custom-built motor mounts were added and a transmission crossmember. The rear end was narrowed 6 inches and custom-built upper and lower control arms with drop spindles were added. A custom-built fuel cell was added to the rear.

The Chevy was brought to the ground by Firestone airbags using 2,600-pound 'bags in the rear and 2,500-pound 'bags in the front. An Air Zenith OB2 200-psi compressor makes sure that plenty of air flows through the five-gallon air tank. A custom boxed bed with factory bedsides and sheetmetal bed insides with custom-built bamboo sticks were added by Todd for a bit of creativity. Fourteen-karat gold custom-built bedrail caps were added along with 14-karat gold lug nuts and center caps placed on the 26-inch US Wheels.
For the exterior, the goal was to have it stand out. Anyone can spray a solid color over the long Chevy, but to really make this Silverado stand out, it had to be done differently. Todd chose a rich House of Kolor Tangelo Pearl custom mix that fades into a Chocolate Espresso brown with a hint of bronze. The rims were painted to match with a gold inlay.

When it was time to adjust the interior Chaotic Customs painted and color matched the dash and console pieces. The door panels, steel plates, and all other panels were wrapped in Chocolate Espresso leather and inserts were done in a rust suede. A center console and speaker box was built by Drop Down Kustomz. A Kenwood head unit powers the stereo system and leads to the CT Sounds components throughout the cabin. A custom-painted surfboard was handmade out of mahogany and oak wood and fitted between the seats.
In 2010, Todd and Alicia had their first child, Zailyn, who was born with congenital hydrocephalus. The Texas truck community is always very supportive, and as a member of EksessiV truck club, Todd and his fiancee, Alicia, help organize and attend many benefit shows. One day they hope to capture a teenage Zailyn driving in the truck that was named after him!
