2014 Ram 1500 Phantom Dualie That is Large and in Charge

With every truck build there comes the notion that it’s going to be executed in a particular way, or follow a certain style. Too often it seems that while trying to be unique, builders still end up going in a direction that appeals to the largest amount of people. Sure, everyone wants their truck to be liked, but how many times has a builder set out to have something that is truly unique? The boys over at KEG Media did something that is vastly different and built a truck that people will undoubtedly stare at—some because they hate it, most because they love it, and that is the way this build was planned out from the beginning! When sitting back and tossing ideas around, the thought of a phantom dualie came to mind as something that had not been built in a while and had not been done with something this new, and definitely not built from a ’14 Ram 1500. For those reasons alone the KEG crew felt like this build should absolutely happen.

Once the truck was purchased, the first step on this project was to call on the capable hands of Josh Peavler over at Full Flex Customs to lay out the idea and work out the kinks. Wanting a phantom dualie that sits flat on the ground is a tall order, and many components of this build were going to have to be custom made, starting with the upper and lower control arms, which then received a set of Slam ’bags and Fox shocks. The rear suspension was the real challenge as a custom-built two-link was fabbed, and the rearend was narrowed. Another set of Slam ’bags were installed as were a pair of Viair compressors, and Specialty Suspension provided a trick one-piece air tank. US Mag was called upon to provide the rolling stock to match the phrase that inspired this build. A set of 24x9 Phantom wheels with 255/30R24 Pirelli P Zero Nero were mounted up front, while the rear received the unbelievably wide 24x15 US Mags matched with a meaty duo of 405/25R24 Pirelli tires.

Ram did a good job regarding the output of their 5.7L Hemi, but KEG felt that it could use a little help. So a deal was struck with Procharger to prototype a system for ’14-up 1500s and soon this ride was supercharged! A Borla 3-inch exhaust system was chosen as the breathing apparatus and had to be custom TIG welded to fit the now redesigned chassis. Back inside the engine bay, a custom battery box was built for the XS battery that was going to power all the ups and downs this truck was going to go through.
The front grille was swapped out for a new T-Rex piece as plainANsimple headlights were installed up front. Moving to the rear of the truck, a normal bed couldn’t just be reworked, so a dualie bed was customized and received a smooth sheetmetal floor and inner bedsides that got covered with Scorpion Liner. Bringing up the rear of the wide bed are a set of Recon taillights. The interior received an upgrade as well, with Alea black leather replacing the stock seat coverings while the dash panels were paint matched white.
To really make a statement, this real-life Phantom was taken to SEMA this past year and sat in the KEG Media booth for showgoers to make their own judgment. Judging by the constant crowd that was at least five people deep at any given time, the statement had been made.
