Nearly 900,000 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra Pickups Recalled For Seat Belt Issue
2014-2015 GM trucks need seatbelt repair
General Motors is recalling 895,232 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra pickups in the United States due to the steel cable connecting the seatbelt to the vehicle potentially failing due to fatigue. The cable could separate over time due to the repeated bending that occurs when people enter and exit the truck.
Luckily, this problem was discovered through GM’s warranty data and no injuries have been reported to date. Notices sent out to current pickup owners and a stop-sale of about 3,000 trucks still on dealer lots will occur until they are repaired.
To remedy this issue, dealers will enlarge the side shield opening and install a pusher bracket on the tensioner, relieving stress on the steel cable. For more information or to see if your truck is affected, visit vinrcl.safecar.gov or my.gm.com to check your VIN number.
