The Original Southeastern Godfather Mini-Truckin' Nationals
Minis Invade Pigeon Forge for the 12th Time
If you happen to live in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, and were home July 6-8th, then we pity you. We're sorry that so many of our fellow mini-truckers invaded your town, draggin' body and throwin' sparks. OK, so we're not really sorry, and we're sure the residents of Pigeon Forge must have appreciated all the attention their town received. Every restaurant, go-kart track, mini-mart, and hotel was teeming with mini-truckers and their rides. Godfather Customs' was the reason for all the commotion as they threw a super-cool show providing fun, stiff competition, and cool prizes for everyone.
The action began Friday night as thousands of eager mini-truckers rolled into town, leaving hundreds of slack-jawed onlookers in their wake. After checking into hotels, many of the visitors were weary from the long drives. Most of them headed directly to the Shular Inn to register for the show. This event is so popular that it drew participants from points as far away as Delaware and New Mexico.
We awoke Saturday morning to hundreds of minis filling the parking lots and grass-covered areas around the hotel. We spent the early part of the morning talking with enthusiasts as they detailed their rides and captured Kodak moments. By the time the sun was in full effect, the judging began and the contests were on. One of the high points of the weekend was the hydraulic contest and the airbag hopping exhibition. During the exhibition, we witnessed a Honda CRX and a Nissan Hardbody hopping all four wheels at least a foot off the ground. Now that was cool.
The weekend went by way too fast, and before we knew it, Sunday had arrived and it was time to pack it in. Once everyone made their way back to the showgrounds, a raffle was held and a bunch of prizes was given away. Finally, the trophies were presented and the all-important club participation trophy went to those crazies from SubCulture. If you would like to attend next year, call (423) 623-2446.
