Godfather Customs Presents Spring Jam 2002
In May of 2002, Godfather Customs hosted its annual Spring Jam show at the International Horse Park in Conyers, Georgia. Mild temperatures, extremely hot rides, and a ton of fun stuff tossed into the mix made for an exciting weekend for all who attended.
Spring Jam is a Friday and Saturday show, where Friday's pace was set by people moving in their vehicles and setting up for the next day's events. By the time Saturday morning arrived, there were plenty of vehicles already inside horse park and even more waiting to get in and claim their piece of real estate for the day. A good mix of trucks, cars, show winners, and not-so-complete rides could be seen strewn about the park with their owner's attending to their needs before the show's judges began to make their rounds.
The most widespread modification we saw this year had to be the use of fiberglass. Everywhere you looked, you could see custom dashes, speaker enclosures, underhood components, and still more smoothed-in items. People seem to be going for a smoother, cleaner, and more futuristic look these days, and the polished appearance of painted fiberglass is fitting the bill nicely. AutoFormz, an Atlanta shop that specializes in fiberglass work, had plenty of its talent on display and stayed busy most of the day setting up appointments to work its magic on yet more custom rides.
Besides the growing number of show hopefuls and attendees that Spring Jam keeps drumming up, the vendor area at the show keeps getting bigger as well. This year, Colorado Custom, APC, and many other high-profile vendors were setup to show off the latest in custom parts and accessories for those in the buying mood. Godfather had a huge tent setup to display and sell most of the items that it carries right there at the show. What it didn't have on-hand at the show, it was more than glad to have shipped directly to you if you were ready to pony up the dough for your parts.
So, after you looked at all of the customs in attendance and grazed through the vendor area, salivating over all the new parts you want, what else was there to do at Spring Jam? For starters, you could have checked out the monster trucks that were flying high over some ex-compact car features, or the burnout competitions that always keep enough smoke rolling around the horse park to choke an, err...a horse. But if all of that still wasn't enough, Godfather also sponsored a hydraulics contest and an airbag hopping contest. By the time all of this was done, there was just barely enough time to run to the awards presentation.
Godfather Customs hosts two shows each year at the International Horse Park in Conyers: one in the spring and the other in the fall. The horse park is a good venue for such an event because it has plenty of grass, parking, bathrooms, and room for the show to expand dramatically in the future. If you haven't attended one of the Godfather shows before, you should seriously think about putting it on your calendar of must-attend events.
