The World's Most Famous Beach attracted what seemed like a million or so spring breakers, offering the perfect combination of sand, stereo, skin, sun, and, yeah, just a little of Florida's famous liquid sunshine. Add to that a huge collection of custom vehicles, the latest displays from stereo and custom manufacturers, plus live entertainment throughout the weekend and you have the perfect spring blowout we know as the 17th Annual Spring Break Nationals.
This legendary gathering of truckers, tuners, and audio heads begins at the Daytona Beach Ocean Center with exhibitors and factory reps on hand to fulfill your every stereo need. It is the largest mobile electronics sound-off show of its type in the world, and a favorite place to introduce the latest in new technology. In addition to their latest product lines, manufacturers always augment their displays with hot women to ensure you stay and chat awhile.

Girls are always a big part of the event. Most spectators considered the blending of equal parts gorgeous girls and high-tech stereo to be the perfect combination; they could check out the latest gear and get ready for the hourly bikini contests up and down the strip. The girls kept the enthusiasm level high while events such as the pizza-eating contests entertained the crowd and provided contestants with a high-speed lunch. Hundreds of free T-shirts, thrown from the balconies prior to every contest, create a sea of hands as spectators attempted an instant upgrade to their wardrobe.
Behind the Ocean Center, the Installer Challenge pitted two stereo crews against each other in a nonstop, 48-hour marathon install, converting a pair of new Toyota Matrix wagons into stereo show-winners. Across the street, behind the Adam's Mark Hotel on the boardwalk, tuner vehicles put on a display along with even more bikini contests. Look over the rides and the girls, and then check out Daytona's sugar-white sandy beach. Two blocks north on the strip and you could find our Primedia sister publication, Super Street, bringing together another healthy collection of custom vehicles and their own schedule of bikini contests.
Saturday night, the street came alive with Street Glow's 5th Annual Neon Glow Off contest, making old Route A1A look like a transplanted section of the Vegas strip. Free JVC-sponsored concerts in the Bandshell entertained the crowd with Tantric Friday night and Warren G and Nate Dogg Saturday night. Dozens of TV and film crews were on hand to record the event along with another couple of dozen magazine teams snapping photographs for next month's articles
The outrageous fun of Spring Break Nationals only happens once a year, so make your plans early. If you missed it, check out and for shots of this year's fun as well as information on all the activities scheduled for next year. We'll see you there.
