Mini Truckin's Havoc 2005 - Custom Truck Shows
First-Year Event Goes Off Big Time
Mini Truckin' and Sport Truck's Havoc '05 lived up to the hype that preceded it. Taking over the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville on June 18-19, trucks started pouring in through the gates early. That's right - no sleeping for us. We actually had to work the show as well as cover it for the magazine.
With the gates closing at 10, it was a mad dash to get trucks in the building and situated, in an effort to let the anxious spectators gawk at the more than 175 customs. A section of the center had to be opened up to accommodate the extra rides that were not anticipated. Being a first-year show, it was imperative for us to have, at the least, decent results to ensure the future of Havoc.
Havoc offered a multitude of events, including the dragging contests, bikini contests, Memphis Audio vehicle build by Xtreme Auto Sound, and an Auto Air Colors demonstration by world-renowned airbrush artist Mickey Harris. There was plenty for the onlookers to peer at, including a backyard fix of our Project Desert Dragger. Due to an unfortunate bar fight with an enclosed trailer, the Dragger was left with a bruised fender and 15 stitches. Thanks goes to Les Voudrie and "The Gooch" for an amazing job at reenacting the killer paint work left by Charles "The Kid" Armstrong, as well as straightening the fender.
All day, we, the Primedia crew, were hard at work. Well, most of us were - there was a suite for "conferences" that was put to good use. As Subculture World Wyd got busy handling the judging duties, Eddy Cebreco, of Xtreme Lowz Florida, Blooddrag fame, and The Big Loop Earring Fan Club spit his tang out as the official emcee of the show. Nikki Zeno signed her life away several hundred times to adoring fans, and the new Mini Truckin' T-shirts went triple-platinum.
Mini Truckin' and Co. would like to thank everyone that participated in the inaugural Havoc show. Special thanks to Chevrolet and Toyo Tires for coming in as our major sponsors.
