Midnight Fantasies Lake Front Tour 2005 - Custom Truck Show
Anyone that has been to the Lake Charles, LA, Lake Front Tour can tell you that up until the last two years, dodging rain was everyone's priority. The last two shows of the season have brought not only clear skies but exemplary weather and that, quite frankly, has left us spoiled. As we prepared to make our annual "Is it going to rain this year?" bets, we suddenly realized it looked like we had a much larger problem to contend with; her name was Katrina.
After all the shock of Hurricane Katrina had lightened up a little, many started to ask, "What about the Midnight Fantasies show?" and we wanted to know ourselves. The Lake Front Tour is one of the top shows in the deep south each year, always pulling in hundreds of entries and thousands of spectators to the Lake Charles Civic Center for what is a nonstop, awesome weekend of hardcore dragging, partying, and tons of fun. The percentage of quality this show pulls down year after year is staggering to me and Roger Miller. His hard-working staff always work extra hard to make sure all in attendance are happy. They had their work cut out for them this year.
The Civic Center was filled with Katrina victims, and all local hotels, filled to capacity. After contemplating a possible total loss and canceling the show for the year, hundreds of calls poured into the Midnight Fantasies Camp encouraging Roger and his crew to press on, and that is just what they did! The show was moved to nearby Sulphur (only about 5 miles west of the original location) and into the newly built Wes-Cal Arena.
Now, in previous years you could expect to find over 500 entries and well over 11,000 spectators. Many had speculated days before this event that there would be less than 100 entries due to the change in schedule. Try 3 times that! There were still close to 300 entries and over 4,000 spectators, proving that you can't scare everyone away. We even met a group of guys from Oklahoma that drove 700+ miles one way to this show and that is only something you could expect from hardcore mini-truckers. Your support meant more to this group of people than you can ever imagine...and to us. Roger Miller and his hard-working crew have worked tirelessly for 14 years to give all of us something to look forward to each September, and they needed our support this year more than ever.
We would like to thank Roger and his crew again for proving everyone wrong and turning a potential show disaster into a success. Mark your calendars for this show next year.
