When you think of where to find an abundance of asphalt-draggin', reflector-collecting minitrucks, Michigan is probably not at the top of the list. But don't tell that to the members of Oaktown Trucks. Their annual Custom Rides For Saving Lives Car & Truck Show brings out some of the very best the state has to offer, and all for a good cause.
What started in 2005 as a way to help raise money for the American Cancer Society, was received so well that the show became an annual event, and it gets bigger and better each year. As the name of the show implies, custom vehicles converge on the town of Lake Orion, Michigan, to show their stuff and compete for some unique custom trophies, which were supplied by Victory Graphix. Local clubs were put to the test with a tug-o-war and the lowest of the low competed in a limbo contest. There was also a silent auction to help raise additional funds for the cause. Some of the high-ticket items included a set of Barely Legal upper and lower control arms, an Air Lift Digital Ride Controller, and a custom airbrushed tank, which was painted by the one-and-only Mickey Harris.

At the end of the day, awards were given away in more than 30 classes, including some specialty awards. Oaktown Trucks was able to again make a sizeable donation to the American Cancer Society, and to this date, they have raised more than $6,000. For more information, log onto www.oaktowntrucks.com.
