2010 Slamfest - Custom Truck Show
Keeps On Minitruckin'
Organizing a successful truck show seems to get tougher with each coming year. Blame it on a poor economy, stricter rules and regulations from fairground officials, and higher gas prices. It's not easy to throw a party and draw a crowd these days.
Mini Madness, the crew behind Slamfest, one of the minitruckin' community's granddaddy events, faced some issues in 2010 when it came time to finalize arrangements for the show. The Florida State Fair Grounds, in Tampa, has been home to Slamfest for so many years now, but unfavorable circumstances forced the show to look for another location to call its own. Luckily, the search for a welcoming strip of land in the surrounding area provided show promoters with a new location in Gainesville that not only allowed them to replant the show, it also offered plenty of room for it to flourish in upcoming years.
The gates to Slamfest 19 opened during the weekend of October 2-3, 2010, at the Alachua Country Fairgrounds, and custom trucks and spectators from all over piled in to show their support for a show that is nearly two decades old. Next year's event will certainly be a time for much deserved recognition and celebration.
Slamfest 2011 dates will be announced soon, so stay informed and check out minimadness.com for further information.
