Drag Racing, Dynoing, and Sled Pulling All in One Day!

Outlaw Diesels

Jason SandsJul 1, 2012
It’s hard to believe that it was just the second year for Rudy’s Diesel’s annual event, but it was. Last year, we brought you coverage of the Rudy’s dyno day, which drew about 400 spectators and participants. This year, a drag race and sled pull was added, which meant almost triple the people—around 1,100. While the dyno was a Ford-dominated event last year, dozens of Duramax- and Cummins-powered rigs showed up this year as well. With the East Coast being diesel heavy and starved for events, we’d put this one on the calendar for next year!
Photo 2/10   |   Jared Rice brought his heavily fueled 6.4L out and took First in both 2.6 and Work Stock thanks to a stock-appearing turbo rule. The fearless Ford towed 23 hours all the way from Illinois for the event.

Haller’s Repair brought its mobile chassis dyno all the way from Cheyenne, Wyoming, to give people some hard data on their horsepower production. With more than 50 trucks spinning the rollers, we were pleasantly surprised to see Fords, Chevys, and Dodges all in the top 10.
Photo 3/10   |   Eric George brought his killer 6.4L Ford with a true 2.6-inch turbocharger in it and took Second in the traditionally Cummins-dominated class.
Since it was a dyno day first and foremost, we were impressed by the number of trucks in attendance throughout the day, and the screaming engines and bellowing smoke kept spectators extremely happy.
Photo 4/10   |   Jess Spruill brought his Pro Street common-rail Dodge to the event and clicked off some mid-7-second eighth-mile times. Although he ran street slicks, traction issues had him dialing his Smarty down to 65 percent power to try and gain traction.
