TS Performance Outlaw Drags & Sled Pull

Rain Or Shine

Mother Nature can be a cruel mistress. Sometimes she smiles on you with favor, and other times her vengeance is unleashed. The 12th annual TS Outlaw event kicked off on Friday morning at Bowling Green, Kentucky’s Beech Bend Raceway where hundreds of excited spectators had gathered, ready to watch some of the most exciting diesel drag racing action of the year. Despite fighting intermittent rain showers all morning, the TS organizers and Beech Bend track crew worked tirelessly to keep the track dry and prepped, allowing trucks to finally take to the track in the early afternoon. With only half the ET Class having made passes, the sky once again opened up—this time with all its fury, making it clear that drag racing was done for the day. Further south, at Jim Roberts Community Park in Franklin, Kentucky, the first of two nights of three-wide sled pulling was underway. Seemingly plagued by déjà vu, the first night of the sled pulling was also cut short by torrential rain, less than halfway through the competition.
Thanks to the quick thinking of the TS organizers—and a willingness to share the track—the Outlaw Drags got a second chance, running on Saturday alongside a Chevy S-10 Championship Drag Racing event. With the weather finally cooperating, returning spectators were treated to a day of great racing filled with record-breaking runs, stunning upsets, and heartbreak. While the drag racing was finishing up, down in Franklin the show ’n’ shine, bikini contest, and chassis dyno were keeping people entertained before a second night of sled pulling began. With not a cloud in the sky, the sellout crowd cheered on its favorite trucks and tractors and the pulls continued—truck after truck—late into the night, culminating with the exciting Super Stock Diesel Class.

In the end, the 2013 TS Performance Outlaw Drags and Sled Pull event was a smashing success, triumphing in the face of adversity. Plans are already in the works for 2014, and it is sure to be one that no true diesel enthusiast should miss.
