Every year in late summer, the population of Terre Haute, Indiana, increases by an estimated 15,000 people. Why? They’re there for diesels, and to enjoy the epic spectacle that is the Scheid Diesel Extravaganza. If you’re into compression powerplants, Scheid has it. There are diesel drag vehicles, engine swaps, and pullers of all shapes and sizes, including tractors and semis. People thrash all night for weeks on end before the event in order to make it there in time. We recognized a group of sled pullers who’d flown out to spectate from California. And at one point, a puller from Canada was on top of the heap. If you’re looking for interesting, diverse, and unique, Terre Haute is the place to be. If this sounds like your type of fun, mark the dates of the 2014 event on your calendar. Until then, check out some of the action from 2013.
