28,000 Hp: Super Stock Diesel Trucks Invade Louisville

28,000 horsepower may sound like a lot -- even an exaggerated number -- but the combined output of the Super Stock diesel trucks featured in this month’s National Farm Machinery Show tractor pull coverage is well within the ballpark of that astronomical figure. 2014 marks the fourth straight year these top-of-the-line machines have been welcomed to the invite-only, indoor sled pull in Louisville, Kentucky -- and horsepower goes up every year. Their goal: plant the weight box in the sand pile at the end of the track, some 240 feet from the starting line.
Each year, this particular pull serves as a sneak peek of what fans can expect to see during the summer. For most drivers, it’s either their truck’s first voyage down the track or their first hook on a brand-new engine -- sometimes it’s both. Some key observations we made after watching this year’s show were: the friendly yet fierce rivalry between Scheid Diesel and Haisley Machine continues to rage on, the verdict is still out on whether three turbos are truly better than two, and making the most of how and when to utilize all their power (i.e. driver skill) is paramount in landing drivers in the winner’s circle. Read on to see each Super Stock truck’s profile.
