Mooneyes X-Mas Party
Retro Holiday Fun
The Mooneyes name is synonymous with old school hot rodding and racing. Since the early 1950’s, Mooneyes, founded by Dean Moon has created many iconic speed parts and kustom accessories for hot rodders around the globe. To celebrate this heritage of speed and kustom kulture, Mooneyes puts on a huge Christmas party bash every year, this year taking place December 13. What started out as a small gathering at their Santa Fe Springs, California store has expanded year over year and is currently held at Irwindale Speedway in order to include open drag racing in a run-what-you-brung fashion.
Before sunrise, the show was packed with hot rods, vintage classics, custom sleds and drag racers waiting for the asphalt to warm up for fun runs down the drag strip. The classic truck presence, from chopped Model A pickups to slammed C-10s, has always been great at the Mooneyes X-mas Party show. Recently, a resurgence of classic 1970's era vans have been popping up with a younger generation of vanners keeping the tradition alive. A full row of retro vans were on display. Keeping with the kustom kulture theme was a pinup contest and rockabilly bands on the main stage keeping the crowds entertained after the drag races.
Mooneyes Japan also throws a large hot rod and truck show in Yokohama, Japan just before the American X-mas Party, even bringing over many American vehicles and motorcycles. Make sure to check out mooneyesusa.net and mooneyes.com for information on next year’s event.
