Maximum Power: Industrial Injection's Dyno Day 2015

Two Dynos, Thousands of Horsepower, and One Good Time!

For more than 30 years, Industrial Injection has been serving the Salt Lake City, Utah, area with awesome diesel deals on turbochargers, injectors, and injection-pump testing, as well as performance products. When the diesel pickup market exploded nearly 15 years ago, Industrial really hit the scene hard, with specially designed parts for light-duty diesels. The company's Silver Bullet and PhatShaft Series turbochargers, as well as its line of high-horsepower injectors and injection pumps, can be found on trucks throughout the United States.
So, when your company's main objective is to help diesel enthusiasts increase the performance of their trucks' engines, what do you do for fun? You host a dyno day, of course. More than 70 trucks showed up for Industrial Injection's 2015 Dyno Day, which featured two dynos (one loaded and one non-loaded), a vendors' row, a show-vehicle section, and plenty of food and good times.
The lines for the dynos looped around the building all day, with everything from stock street trucks with tuners to multiple competition-based rides capable of putting down more than 1,000 hp at the rear wheels.
We saw several innovative ideas at Industrial. Such concepts as triple CP3 injection pumps, old-school rides with Cummins engines, and a wide variety of hard-core diesel performance parts. It doesn't matter whether you drive a new Audi diesel or a big rig, there is something for everyone at Industrial.
The smiles were in abundance at the end of the day, with many spectators and competitors promising to come back for Industrial's 2016 event. If you don't believe us, check out the photos—Industrial Injection's Dyno Day was a blast! Thanks to the entire Salt Lake City crew for their hard efforts to make the competition an event to remember.

Weaver Customs' Django, a '62 Ford F-100 with an 1,100hp, 12-valve Cummins engine under the hood, was on display at Industrial Injection for everyone to drool over. We've never seen diesel power and street-rod smoothness combined with such outstanding results. Look for more on this truck in a future issue!

The old-school swaps didn't stop with the '62 F-100. Also Cummins powered, this trick '60s Chevrolet C10 was driven to Industrial from Nevada, and it also stopped onlookers in their tracks.

A war was brewing for highest-horsepower honors on the dyno, with Industrial Injection's drag truck being a top contender. The Duramax-powered ride has all the goodies to make insane horsepower, like compound turbochargers, three CP3 pumps, mammoth injectors, and nitrous oxide.

This is Dmitri Millard's '03 GMC Sierra 2500HD's wild Duramax engine, outfitted with five CP3 pumps and an enormous (more than 100mm) atmospheric turbo that's capable of making more than 100 pounds of boost.

In addition to the competition vehicles, there were a number of hot street trucks on hand with custom single- and compound-turbo setups by Industrial Injection. It didn't matter whether they were Cummins-, Duramax-, or Power Stroke–equipped—making 700 to 900 hp was all in a day's work for these rigs.

In addition to the light-duty stuff, we saw more than a few big rigs in the shop that were packing Industrial Injection hardware (turbos and exhaust manifolds) designed specifically for semis.

Action on Industrial's non-loaded Dynojet started mid-morning, when stock-class trucks were strapped down on the rollers to see what kind of horsepower and torque they could put out.

Some of the higher-horsepower trucks turned the drums on the SuperFlow dyno outside. Diesel Pickup Specialists' compound-turbocharged CataMax laid down an impressive 843 hp.

Outside the building was an impressive array of show vehicles, including cool Ford and Dodge six-door creations built by Mega X 2, and a four-linked '12 Ford F-350 with an impressive 26 inches of lift.

Owners of stock and street-class trucks were also in search of solid horsepower numbers on the inside dyno. This extremely clean '01 Dodge Ram 2500 was no slouch in the power department, as it laid down 589 hp with a single turbo.

While trucks were being swapped on the dyno, we also got a chance to check out Industrial Injection's warehouse, where they have race engines ready to ship out, cylinder heads that are completed, and thousands of turbochargers for both big rig and pickup truck applications. Saying it's impressive is an understatement.

Aeromotive has now jumped into the diesel fuel system market and engineered a very impressive lift pump. The unit features an application-specific custom motor and an external pressure regulator with a liquid-filled gauge, and it's compatible with virtually every type of diesel fuel.

Engines in many of the trucks that were run on the dyno rely on ARP head studs, rod bolts, and more. It should come as no surprise that ARP was on hand with a variety of bolts and studs on display for Duramax, Power Stroke, and Cummins engines.

For those looking for more underhood flash, Powder Extreme Coatings had a booth at the dyno show, with valve covers, coilovers, and compressor covers on display in a variety of colors.

Are you considering a diesel swap? It could be easier than you think. We spotted this cool Cummins-Allison conversion harness from ACD Engines that looks like it could make the wiring side of the project a whole lot simpler.

We also spotted NHRDA drag-race regular Verlon Southwick, whose '06 GMC Sierra 2500HD put down 889 hp.

In an age when everything seems to cost money, lunch was on Industrial, literally. Around noon, everyone took a break for food cooked on the grill that was provided for free by the shop.

Back on the SuperFlow, we saw this '01 Dodge Ram 2500 eclipse 700 rwhp with ease, running a VP44 injection pump and nitrous oxide.
Photo 21/27   |   2015 Dyno Day 1998 Dodge Ram 2500 12 Valve Cummins Engine
Some of the nastiest trucks ran later in the day. Power Driven Diesel's Frankenstein is one of them. The '98 Dodge Ram 2500 has a triple-turbocharged, 12-valve Cummins that's built to run in the low 10s at the dragstrip and dominate dyno days.
Photo 22/27   |   2015 Dyno Day 1992 Dodge W250
Inside Industrial Injection, small-turbo and stock-class trucks were still spinning the rollers well into the afternoon. This VE-pumped '92 Dodge W250 put down quite an impressive 487 hp and then bumped it up to 525 with water-methanol injection.
Photo 23/27   |   2015 Dyno Day 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 3500hd
One of the coolest aspects of the afternoon dyno session was a showdown between two high-horsepower, common-rail trucks. One was a Dodge, the other a Chevy, and both had enormous 75mm/95mm compound turbos, twin CP3s, and Industrial Injection race injectors. After the smoke settled, the sleeper '05 Chevy Silverado 3500HD took the win with an 1,190hp run.
Photo 24/27   |   2015 Dyno Day 2006 Dodge Ram 3500
Barely behind Zach Fuller's rig was this '06 Dodge Ram 3500 owned by Randy Reyes. With nearly the same setup as Zach's (other than its engine being a Cummins), Randy's truck was very close, with a 1,168hp pull.
Photo 25/27   |   2015 Dyno Day Frankenstein Truck Exhaust Cloud Making 1379hp
All the heavy hitters made their way to the dyno during the late afternoon. Frankenstein was first, and it made a whopping 1,379 hp to lead the fuel-only, compound-turbo category.
Photo 26/27   |   2015 Dyno Day Truck 12 Valve Engine Exhaust Cloud At 1550hp
The 12-valve's lead was short-lived, however, as Dmitri Millard's wild combination made an insane, compound-turbo-class–winning 1,550 hp on Tune 1, before throwing the super-long CP3 belt (remember, the truck's Duramax is fed by five pumps). People always say "there's more left in it," and Dmitri's rig proved this the following day by laying down a massive 1,816 hp.
Photo 27/27   |   2015 Dyno Day Industrial Injections Drag Truck Exhaust Cloud At 1630hp
One of the last trucks of the day—and the most powerful—was Industrial Injection's drag truck, which has run in the 9-second range at nearly 160 mph. The crowd was moved 50 feet back for the awesome nitrous-ingesting dyno run, which registered a mind-numbing 1,630 hp, a fitting end to an awesome event.
