Event Coverage: Eighth Annual Scrapin' the Coast: Biloxi, Mississippi

Large crowds, high-quality rides, and fun times to be had. What else do you expect when it comes to Greg Miller and the rest of the Scrapin' the Coast Crew? One of the shows I look forward to every year, this was its eight consecutive year. Located on the welcoming coast of Biloxi, Mississippi, it sets an awesome atmosphere for everyone in attendance. The strip provides lots of good cruisin', and the Hard Rock buffet isn't so bad, either.

With plenty to do, this show had entertainment for everyone ranging from the Half Pint Brawlers midget wrestling, to airbag and hydraulic hopping competitions, and rockin' live bands! For those more into the performance side of things, a mobile dyno was on site so you could see what your ride puts out! Nor did they forget about all you stereo guys out there! The show wouldn't be complete without the USACi 3x point stereo contest. Many sponsors were in attendance, such as Empress Audio and Marine, Budweiser, LJ Street Customs, Allen Scion, Vibe, Kinetik, Status, Keefs Rod & Customs, R and J Auto Concepts, and Kingpin Customs. Of course, the show field itself was filled, over 1900 vehicles registered and over 18,000 spectators! A much-needed parking lot on the showgrounds accommodated all the show vehicles.
One of the trucks that caught my eye was Dan Dattalo's 2009 Dodge Ram 1500. Dan purchased this truck brand new to be his daily driver while he works on his other project. But being the car guy he and all of us are, he couldn't leave it stock. Three and a half months before the Sema auto show in 2009, he decided to tear into the truck. They got it done just in time to appear in the Rhino Linings booth.

To get the truck to its low stance, Dan equipped this beauty with a full air ride suspension. Up front, he used shortened custom lower control arms with 88-98 Chevrolet press-in ball joints, raised custom upper control arms with Spherical bearings, and McGaughy's two-inch drop spindles. The steering had to be modified with heim joints. To get the rear down, a custom back half was built using 2x4x1/4-inch square tubing. The rearend was shortened 10 inches, and to keep it in place he used a two-link lower/wishbone upper setup. A custom tubular bridge was also built. He uses Slam Specialties airbags all the way around with GC Valves. The body was channeled two inches and the front frame was Z'd 2" aswell, to get the rockers laying flat on the ground.

The exterior of the truck didn't fall short of any customizing. The antenna, fuel door, and tailgate handle were all eliminated. The bumpers, mirrors and grille were all color matched to the truck's beautiful custom tidewater blue metallic paint job. The beautiful color also found its way to the interior with some color-matched interior pieces and custom center console. And of course, the Rhino Liner was also color matched! Why would you not with such an amazing color?! To give this truck a little extra style, he rolls on 24-inch Boss 330's with 295/35-24 tires up front and 305/35-24 in the back. One of the best facts about Dan's truck, he still uses this truck as a daily driver just like he intended to do so when he drove it off the lot!

The night life was definitely kickin' in Biloxi! All you had to do was walk out to the main strip and see the boulevard packed with show vehicles and showgoers cruisin' and having a great time. Such a sight to see! If cruisin' around Biloxi wasn't your thing, a five-minute drive was all it took to hit up the Hard Rock Casino for some roulette, poker tables, or slot machines. And as mentioned earlier, that awesome buffet!
If you attended this show, you definitely know what I mean when I say you could not be bored, there is always something to do. It was a hot weekend, so if you plan to attend this event next year, bring some swimsuits! For information on next year's event, visit
