Relaxin’ in the Northwest 2018
Going Big in the PNW
The Pacific Northwest truck scene is alive and kicking and it was confirmed at the 2018 Relaxin in The Northwest Custom Truck and Car Show hosted by Relaxed Atmosphere. For eight years Relaxed Atmosphere hosted a great one-day show just north of Portland, Oregon, but by 2016 they came to the realization that what was missing in the Northwest was an old school 3-day event. So, for 2017 they set their sights to bringing back an event to the likes of Drop Zone that had been held at the Oregon State Fairgrounds for many years. The Awakening, as it was referred to last year, was a hit and as the word spread, the anticipation grew for 2018.
Putting on a 3-day event is no easy task but with the help from their title sponsor Hammered Weekend Wear, all the participants who came from all over the 7 western states were treated to a good time day and night. During the day, the car show area was filled with some awesome trucks including the beautiful dark blue ‘55 Ford F100 that was awarded Best of Show. Several So Cal show stoppers made the trek up north including Jeff Popiolek’s Nissan Hardbody that was displayed in the FLO Airride booth and Patrick Rio’s Insane Nissan Hardbody that parked with his club, Lowest Club award winner, Severed Ties. Another out-of-state attendee that was the talk of the show was Chad Copper from No Regrets Northern California that brought up three trucks including a patina’d F100 that Relaxed Atmosphere awarded their club choice. Washington residents Joy & John Ensminger won the Best Debut with their radical custom lime green Mazda mini truck. Joy and John are members of Twisted Creations, and their club went home with two awards, Best Camp and Club Participation. Winning Club Participation is unique at Relaxin in The Northwest. To win this award a club must collect special tokens handed out by Relaxed Atmosphere throughout the weekend for participating in events, campsite themes and being active throughout the weekend including cruising their trucks around the show grounds in the evening cruises. There were many cool offerings during the weekend including raffles, games, live music by DJ Galen Johnson, tattooing by Permanent Marx and barber shop services for those wanting an old fashion gentleman’s haircut by American Traditional Barbershop.
Plans for next year are in the works for July 26th through the 28th, 2019. Relaxed Atmosphere members would like to send out a special thank you to all the wives and significant others that helped make it all happen as well as the vendors and sponsors.
