5th Annual Cruisin’ for Cancer

Mini-Truckers on a Mission

May 8, 2019
Truckin recently attended the 5th annual Cruisin' for Cancer charity event, and we were astonished by the way the custom community came out in droves to raise money for those who have been affected by all forms of cancer. The benefit was started by Unforgiven Mini Truck Club President Shayne "UFFU" Markstadt, who had a family member survive breast cancer. Wanting to give back, he launched Cruisin' for Cancer.
The custom truck and car community can sometimes be improperly labeled, but this show proves even a rag-tag group of bearded, tattooed, black-shirt-wearing gearheads can open their hearts to raise money for a great cause. And they can sure put on a heck of a show! Now in its 5th year, the event had more than 300 vehicles in attendance, which waited in a line almost a mile long to pack every inch of available real estate the San Joaquin Valley College parking lot had to offer. Attendees came from all over Southern California and even from out of state to show their support of this ever-growing show. Hosted by Unforgiven Mini Truck Club, the event is and always has been family friendly, with many in attendance bringing their kids and extended family to imprint on them how cool custom vehicles are and to show the aforementioned group of hoodlums have a huge heart. Kids were treated to a bounce house as well as a dunk tank, and the smiles on their faces spoke to how much fun they were having.

The custom community was in full force, being represented by all forms of local clubs, including Freaks of Nature, No Regrets, Forbidden Fantasy, Dropped Addiction, Sunset, Concrete Deep, Seductive, Limitless, Revolution, Cryptic Collections, Mini Madness, Decendants, Chosen Few, Trak Life, Infamous, and Ol Skool Wayz. The clubs could not have been more diverse, either, as mini-trucks, fullsize, cars, lowriders, classic hot rods and sleds, and even motorcycles were on the scene, proving this community can come together for a good cause.
In total, more than 75 awards were given out in 32 different classes with Carl Kolling winning Best of Show for his amazing Star Wars-themed '95 Chevy S10 (seen here) that was recently featured in the pages of Truckin. A special thanks goes out to Kr8tive House for producing the trophies. Some of the vendors on site included Kelley's Towing, Audiotistics, Frame and Glory, Relay For Life, Team Horton Events, and Mustache Mikes Italian Ice, with DJ Madhouse FX on hand spinning tunes. All in all, the show itself raised $7,877, with an additional $1,600 generated by the raffle hosted by Team Horton—and all of it was donated to The American Cancer Society. At the time of this writing, Truckin was informed the event date for next year has already been secured for April 25, 2020, and, due to the success and growth during the past five years, it will be held at the San Bernardino County Fairgrounds in Victorville, California.

Shayne and his brothers in Unforgiven want to thank all the volunteers personally, Team Horton, Relay For Life, San Joaquin Valley College, the sponsors, the vendors, the clubs, and everyone who came out to make this event a success.
