UPDATE w. VIDEO - 2017 Ram Power Wagon Makes Debut at 2016 Chicago Auto Show
Mustache Grilles All-Around!
The truck market is hot right now, and manufacturers keep delivering awesome trucks from the factory that are more than capable to do nearly anything. The 2017 Power Wagon just made its debut at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show, and it sure has the goods to be a powerful, capable, and daily driven truck.
The 2017 Power Wagon keeps many of the features we loved form the previous generation: a stout Ram 2500 chassis, standard 6.4L Hemi V8, Warn 12,000-pound winch, 33-inch tires, and custom Power Wagon graphics. The all-new 2017 Power Wagon received styling cues inside and out that you will either love or hate.
The exterior on the new Power Wagon features a supersized Ram Rebel grille, graphics reminiscent of the 1979-1980 “Macho Power Wagon,” bold black RAM lettering on the tailgate, and a blacked-out theme. The large grille features billet Ram letters, while the blacked-out bumpers, headlight trim, body moldings, mirrors, and wheel wells offer a bold look to this big truck. The hood features a vent stamped hood with a gloss-black graphic, and the “Power Wagon” graphic runs in a vertical stripe on the front side of the bed in rotated font that pays homage to a design from 36 years ago.
The truck rides on 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires wrapped around a set of unique forged-aluminum 17-inch wheels. To put those tires to good use, the front suspension features Ram’s “Articulink” system, which improves flexibility and axle articulation. The rear suspension features a five-link coil-spring setup, which is unique for the heavy-duty marketplace. Bilstein shocks are installed on all four corners, and specific control arms and springs provide 2-inches of lift. An electronic disconnecting sway bar allows for even more suspension flex while providing excellent on-road handling by automatically engaging at speeds more than 18 mph. The 2017 Power Wagon has a Ramp Travel Index of 510, offering plenty of flex for nearly every situation.
To keep the flexed suspension in motion, front and rear electronic lockers are standard, allowing for true four-wheel drive and maximum traction. Making sure you have the power to climb obstacles and tow 10,000 pounds, the standard 6.4L Hemi engine provides 410 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque. In case you do get stuck or need to pull a stuck companion out, the standard 12,000-pound Warn winch is still integrated into the front bumper
New exterior styling and suspension weren’t the only things that were upgraded: the interior features changes as well. A unique seat material is finished in a Diesel Gray and black coloring with the Goodyear DuraTrac tread pattern is embossed in the seats, similar to the Ram Rebel. Power Wagon logos are embroidered in the seat bolsters with the Ram logos on the side of the headrests. Ambient lighting adds a touch of class to this hardcore 4x4 truck. To keep the floor of the 2017 Power Wagon clean, all-weather floor mats are standard with Power Wagon badging.
The Power Wagon is one of the most capable 4x4 trucks on the market today, and the new 2017 model has plenty of new technology and features we want to try out. As for the new grille, we think it will grow on us. UPDATE!! Check out the video below of the demonstration of the Power Wagon's axle articulation!
