Ford Adds XLT Sport Appearance Package to 2017 Explorer
Upscale Look for Mainstream Trim
In the fullsize truck market, there are a mind-boggling array of different trim and appearance packages available, and it seems a new one comes out every other month. Buyers just can’t seem to get enough of them. Hoping to cash in on that successful formula for its SUVs, Ford is offering the XLT Sport appearance package for the 2017 Explorer.
Adding some of the upscale look for the Sport Trim, the XLT Sport appearance package adds Magnetic Gray grille, mirror caps, and rear applique, as well as black body-side cladding , a black roof rack, and “Explorer” hood lettering, and 20-inch Magnetic Gray wheels. On the inside, the package adds Dark Earth Gray leather seating with Miko suede seat bolsters and inserts, with suede door inserts with contrast stitching. Explorer logo floormats round out the updates.
Mechanically, the XLT Sport mirrors the standard XLT dirty bits, with the 3.5L naturally aspirated V-6 standard, with the 2.3L EcoBoost I-4 available as an option. Other features standard on the XLT trim include pushbutton start, Sync 3, 10-way power driver seat, and LED fog lamps. The redesigned 2017 Ford Escape will also offer a sport appearance package on SE and Titanium trims. The Explorer XLT Sport will be available at dealers early summer 2016.
