Diesel Power Challenge

As 2020 comes to a close, what is the state of Diesel Power’s main event?

Nov 23, 2020
It's mid-November, 2020, and we're now nine months into a global pandemic that has (negatively) affected almost every aspect of our day-to-day lives, especially many of the things that we enjoy or really look forward to doing.
For me and all of the Diesel Power readers who enter, have competed in, or follow the brand's annual Diesel Power Challenge competition, COVID-19 and the various restrictions on gathering and safety concerns that the situation brought forth, has been, to say the very least, the worst thing ever.
Back in May, we sadly announced the cancelation of DPC 2020. At that time, with consistent protocols in the infant stages of being established and there literally being no cure for the coronavirus on the horizon, MotorTrend Group opted to suspend all of its major events, with no confirmation if or when the programs would resume.

Typically at this time, just after the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, I'm shifting into second gear with handling administrative tasks for Diesel Power Challenge. Entries are being processed to present for voting, contracts for facilities, and all-important financial support are distributed and negotiated, and I just start preparing myself for the full-on DPC storm that hits just after the New Year (voting, competitor announcement, etc. ). It's nerve-wracking and exciting at the same time, and today I can only say that I sincerely miss it, as there hasn't been any internal discussion about Diesel Power ChalIenge since the cancellation announcement.

The question "Will there be Diesel Power Challenge next year?" has been brought up many times. It's only right that I keep you all updated about the state of DPC, even when there really isn't any new information to report. No news really can be good or bad, in this case.
Yes, our society is now negotiating COVID a little better than we did at its outset. However, the virus is still a threat, and right now, MotorTrend Group continues to operate with the same precautions and travel restrictions that were adopted in the spring. So, to sum things up, Diesel Power Challenge—with the same format it has had since its inception—remains in suspense at this time, so to speak. There have not been any discussions or plans made for holding the event in 2021.
Of course, I certainly wish I had better, more hopeful information to give you. But, I have to keep it totally 100 percent with everyone and ask that you continue to remain as optimistic as possible about times changing for the better—and our tentpole event returning at some point, hopefully soon.
Thank you, and be safe and be healthy.
