Diesel Power Challenge 2019 Alternate Chris Patterson - #DPC2019

Jul 17, 2019
Diesel Power Challenge 2019 Presented by XDP's Official Alternate, Chris Patterson, says that because his family has been involved with drag racing for three generations, having a strong interest in all things automotive just comes naturally.
With a degree in automotive applied science (from Texas State Technical College), Chris spent 12 years working as a Dodge dealership technician and developing a passion for diesel through doing side jobs for friends. Purchasing an '02 Dodge Ram 3500 took passion to full-blown "addiction" levels, Chris says.

When side jobs and building a race truck started to grow old, Chris bought the '07 Dodge Ram 3500 you see here, with a plan of building a solid street rig. "With just a programmer, the common-rail 5.9L Cummins-powered 1-ton was faster than my race truck, so I devoted by attention to upgrading the new dualie," Chris says.
Over several years, and after many modifications (transmissions, injectors, turbochargers, and more), the truck has become a rolling business card for Chris' company—Summit Diesel. "I built this truck to be the ultimate street truck, centered around being capable of drag racing, sled pulling, and putting up impressive numbers on the dyno," Chris says. "I've always been a fan of Diesel Power Challenge, and one of my goals has been to enter and compete."

As Chris is the Official Alternate for 2019, it is unknown whether he will actually have an opportunity to make it into the field. However, that didn't stop him from preparing a rig he feels can win it all if given the chance. "We built an entire engine, transmission, and turbo system in-house, specifically for DPC. The only outsourced element was ECM tuning," Chris adds.
He feels having a lot of seat time in his rig, and the fact that it's a longbed dualie, are advantages that could bring success. "The truck has been at this current power level for a year and a half, so I have had plenty of time to make adjustments and become comfortable with everything. By it being a dualie and having a long wheelbase, there are six points of contact with the racing surfaces and weight is distributed better, which can be critical for traction in the sled pull and trailer-tow segments."

I hope to get the opportunity to compete in Diesel Power Challenge 2019. I would love for myself and my crew to be able to showcase all the hard work that has been put into the dualie and the technology and talent in the diesel industry. F1 Diesel, Diesel Performance Converters, Manton Pushrods, GL Tuning Solutions, Power Driven Diesel, Valair Clutch, BD Diesel Performance, Hamilton Cams, and Banks are all a big part of this winning team."
