Diesel Power Challenge 2019 Competitor Andrew McCane - #DPC2019

Truck Built With Hard Work and Dedication

Andrew McCane's interest in diesels dates back to the summer of 2015. "I met some guys who owned modified trucks and they became my friends," he explains. The following summer, he purchased an '06 Dodge Ram 2500 with a few modifications already in place (a small set of compound turbochargers, 100hp injectors, and a Firepunk Diesel Comp 1 four-speed automatic transmission).
A blown cylinder-head gasket and failing turbos are the problems that really started the build process on Andrew's Ram. The head was machined and ARP 625 studs added, and the turbochargers were upgraded to a BorgWarber S369/S480 setup that made 677 hp. All the work was done by Andrew and his good friend (and now employer) Daniel Hartman, owner of Hartman Diesel Performance. "That was fun for a while, but eventually there came a need for more power," Andrew explains.

So, after bolting on an ATS Diesel Performance Dual CP3 kit and Exergy Performance 400-percent-over injectors, Andrew drove the rig for approximately 5,000 miles before the engine scattered. Andrew says it was at that moment that "we decided to build something a little stronger."
The next engine, founded on a 5.9L Cummins block stuffed with Carrillo rods and topped with a D&J Precision Machine Stage 1 cylinder head, was installed, and the truck was taken to the chassis dyno at Firepunk Diesel, where it made 1,187 hp and 2,015 lb-ft of torque.

"Only 10,000 miles later, a split (in half) block and cracked head brings us to the setup that's going to Diesel Power Challenge," Andrew says. "The time leading up to DPC has required a lot of hard work and dedication by great friends (Dustin Risser, Preston Peterson, and Daniel Hartman) to get the truck prepared, as it sat without an engine for the better part of a year."
