Aaron Rudolf is perhaps known best in the diesel performance industry for his low 9-second Power Stroke, which you read about last month in “World Beater” (Aug. ’12). While we told him he had to leave that one at home (it’s a race truck), we were more than willing to let him enter his daily-driven 6.4L Power Stroke in the competition. Aaron’s street driver is perhaps one of the more reliable of the bunch, as he’s beat on it pretty hard in the same configuration for more than a year. When asked what he was going to do to prepare for the challenge, he replied, “Nothing.” With nearly 1,000 rwhp on multiple dynos, he figured he was bringing enough to be competitive.

When You Own a 9-Second Diesel, This Is What You Drive Every Day.
The truck isn’t merely a dyno monster, though. Tow Power turbochargers from Elite Diesel Engineering, nitrous, and a 5R110 that has seen multiple 11-second dragstrip passes ensure his truck is ready for battle. In fact, at a recent Pro Street diesel drag race (when his race truck wasn’t ready), Aaron clicked off a 7.1-second eighth-mile time in the tow rig. Aaron’s truck has also been lowered, which is usually an advantage for most events. In addition to the turbos and nitrous, the Power Stroke also has plenty of fuel, in the form of an AirDog lift pump, Rudy’s Diesel injection pump, and 110hp nozzles.

Perhaps one of the biggest advantages for Aaron could be his experience. It’s that experience that’s led him to bring his chief mechanic along for the ride. Aaron also has plenty of time on the dragstrip and on the dyno. In fact, his was the first 6.4L truck to make more than 1,000 hp at the rear wheels, a feat we covered back in “Real-World Horsepower” (June ’10).

Aaron’s Ford weighs more than 8,000 pounds, so we’d say he has a chance to do well in the sled pull, although the dyno and dragstrip are what he knows best. Our pick is for Aaron to make the top three in torque in the dyno competition and do well in the drag race and trailer tow events. We’re also looking for him to be pretty fast on the trailer obstacle course, as he has plenty of experience pulling a trailer.
