Our pride and joy is growing up so fast, and we couldn’t be happier! 2014 marks the 10th installment of our signature event, Diesel Power Challenge. Over the years, this invitation-only, diesel-fueled brawl has drawn in some of the most powerful diesel pickups in the nation. We’ve seen frontrunners fail and underdogs rise to the top, reinforcing the fact that consistency and reliability are the keys to victory. Competitors have endured blazing heat, falling snow, torrential rain, high altitude, mechanical failures, and mental breakdowns. Yet year after year, a batch of new hopefuls sends in their applications for a shot at this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
If you think you’re seeing more trucks than before, it’s because you are. Due to an overwhelming number of entries from Ram owners, we’ve increased the pool of potential competitors to choose from to 20, while Ford and GM remain at 10 each. The Ford, General Motors, and Ram camps have offered up nearly every powertrain available in modern diesel pickups, making this one of the most diverse groups of DPC hopefuls yet.
DPC X will follow the same format as previous years, as we pit a new group of nine competitors against last year’s victor, Wesley Beech. Your task is to decide which nine trucks will be given the opportunity to compete for the top spot. Placed before you on the following pages are the 40 brave souls who all think they have what it takes. It is from these entries that you must choose your top three Fords, GMs, and Rams and mail in the voting ballot on page 98. The top three vote-earning trucks from each group will get the call to compete. You must vote for three trucks of each make, and you may only vote for a truck once per ballot. Before you ask, no photocopies, photos, faxes, crayon sketches, or emails of the original ballot will be accepted; all voting must be done with an authentic printed magazine ballot. However, there is no limit to the amount of ballots you can send in. So choose the trucks you most want to see compete, and be sure to get your votes mailed in by April 1, 2014!
