Diesel Power Challenge 2015 Day 2 - Trailer Obstacle Course
Driver Skill & Powerful Trucks
The trailer obstacle course is one of the most difficult parts of Diesel Power Challenge. While it doesn’t involve huge speed, like the upcoming quarter-mile drag race, or massive power, like yesterday’s dynamometer test, manhandling 10,000 pounds of trailer around a tight course is a lot to ask of our drivers and their trucks. Bandimere Speedway, in Morrison, Colorado, hosted today’s festivities, donating the use of their blacktop to the cause.
Still, all 10 of our competitors did decently on the obstacle course, and the orange, cone-shaped casualties of a misjudged distance only added to the fun. We can’t spoil too much, but our returning champ Lavon Miller put up a flawless, very quick run that was hard for all of our contestants to beat, and Cory Chomos’ fast, almost perfect run was spoiled at the very end when his trailer jackknifed into the starting box, destroying almost every cone in sight.
Today was also supposed to be the drag day, both with and without that 10,000-pound trailer, but heavy rains in Morrison precluded most of our trucks’ races. We’ll be back at Bandimere tomorrow, taking advantage of their generous hospitality in hopes of giving all our competitors a chance to run their rigs down the quarter-mile.
Till then, be sure to check out the video of today’s competition below!
