At first look, one thing Jared Rice's immaculate 2010 Ford F-350 dualie wins (without any argument) is style points—an abundance of them. With its double-deep, black-on-black exterior and cabin, and a menacing stance created by a 2-inch lift and One Up Offroad's suspension bits, Jared's Peoria, Illinois–based rig is hands-down the hottest looking Blue Oval entry voted into Diesel Power Challenge 2015.
However, and unfortunately for Jared and a few other DPC competitors, Challenge winners aren't determined by their appearance. We have a strong feeling Jared could care less about this, as we believe it's the rig's 6.6L Power Stroke engine and a host of other hard-core driveline and suspension components that are the reasons why this dualie is a serious contender for DPC gold!

The stock-appearing engine is actually far removed from its 6.4L OEM persona and now features internal components headlined by an Elite Diesel Engineering stroker assembly (Mahle Motorsports forged pistons and Carrillo connecting rods) that increases displacement to 6.6 liters and Elite's Stage 2X billet camshaft and Wagler Competition cylinder heads. "Bert" at River City Diesel is responsible for assembling the stout powerplant, which, with Elite Diesel Engineering's Junior High-Power compound turbochargers and nitrous oxide, should be plenty capable of meeting the 1,000hp/2,000-lb-ft performance levels many enthusiasts believe will be the benchmark for power and torque at the 2015 event.
"I bought this truck brand new in 2010, and I used it as my main form of transportation and as a work truck, racking up 30,000 miles in less than 15 months—many with my gooseneck trailer behind it," Jared says. "I swore when I bought it I would leave it alone performance-wise and only perform basic mods for reliability."

Of course, that claim is often made…but not adhered to…by diesel geeks everywhere. However, Jared actually did stick to his guns, amassing more than 150 sled pull passes, and countless races, burnouts, and boosted launches on the stock long-block, before it finally gave out. "That's when I decided I needed to build the best engine I could. But, due to my hectic schedule, I wasn't able to get the truck running until two months before Diesel Power Challenge."
While he's ready for all facets of the Challenge, sled pulling is Jared's game. With Jared's experience and the truck's power, long wheelbase, and bulletproof drivetrain (which also includes a River City Diesel–built 5R110W automatic transmission and Dynatrac custom-built ProRock 80 rear end), we'll be keeping a close eye on this Ford, as it just might prove to be very strong in several other segments of DPC.
