J.D. Gleason is proof that in order to play, first you have to show up. He was voted in as an alternate competitor for Diesel Power Challenge 2015, so he dutifully kept close contact with the DPC staff, even though he knew he wasn't guaranteed entrance into the competition. That move paid off, because when a spot opened on the competitor list, J.D. jumped right in.
J.D.'s '09 Ford F-350 is one of the more sinister trucks in this year's competition. The engine definitely brings meaning to the term "overbuilt." Delipped and coated Mahle pistons by River City Diesel, gapless rings, an Elite Diesel Stage 1X camshaft, Carrillo rods, and coated bearings keep the powerplant running smoothly, even at high speed. Elite Diesel valvesprings and pushrods prevent valve float when under boost, which is provided by Elite Diesel Max-Power X turbochargers, sized 66 mm and 88 mm.

More Elite Diesel goodies find their way into the fuel injection system, while custom 90-percent-over nozzles supply enough fuel to the cylinders for maximum power. When needed, a dual-stage, progressive nitrous-oxide kit from Nitrous Express gives the engine an extra shove. A custom intake and Elite Diesel Z-Max Jr. intake manifold conspire with BD Diesel Performance exhaust manifolds and a 5-inch Flo-Pro exhaust to keep it all breathing easy.
Sitting just slightly higher than stock, J.D.'s all-black Super Duty looks very athletic resting on its American Force 22-inch wheels and Toyo Open Country M/T tires. Icon shocks and Hellwig sway bars keep the truck planted, while One Up Offroad adjustable link arms and traction bars help put the power down effectively.
The truck is downright menacing. It looks very clean, inside and out, and it's obvious that J.D. cares for his truck, which we like to see. "I built my truck to be the truest version of a street truck," J.D. says, "The cab is fully sound-deadened, it rides smoother than stock, and it tows and drives awesome—even here at 5,000 feet above sea level." J.D. bought his "sports-car killer" brand-new, and since he's spent the last few years turning it into the truck it is right now, we're excited he's competing in this year's challenge.
