Diesel Power Challenge 2015 Competitor Rick Fox's 2000 Dodge Ram 2500

A Sleeper 6.7L Cummins

Rick Fox’s ’00 Dodge Ram 2500 is a bit of a sleeper with its blacked-out appearance, smoked taillamps, and dark window tint hiding an interior built for racing (OK, maybe the 7-inch stack, nitrous bottle, and oil coolers in the bed are giveaways!). Inside the cabin, you’ll find a six-point mandrel-bent roll bar built by Firepunk Diesel, Summit Racing seats mounted to the factory bases, and an SCS Cheetah shifter mounted to a custom center console. The drivetrain is monitored by Speedhut gauges with a gauge cluster built by Broadfield Customs and an Edge Products CTS monitor.

The interior components are just a hint at what this truck has to offer under the hood: a fully built 6.7L Cummins engine swap. The powerplant has a balanced bottom end by Wasserbeck Machine, a steel girdle, ARP studs in the head and bottom end, Carrillo rods by Black’s Diesel, 6.7L Cummins industrial pistons, a factory 5.9L camshaft, Manning Motorsport pushrods, and 110-pound valvesprings.
Air is forced into the engine from a Firepunk Diesel Twin Kit that uses a billet S366 turbocharger and a billet S484 turbo by Engineered Inc. Fuel is delivered using an AirDog II 4G that pumps 165-gph to an Exergy Engineering 12mm stroker CP3 pump and a 60-percent-over CP3 from T&C Diesel that work together to feed 250-percent-over Exergy Engineering injectors.

The street-stance Ram’s suspension is lowered 4 inches in the front and 4.5 inches in the rear, and the custom rear traction bars use a ladder support frame that also provides a rear driveshaft loop. It complements the front driveshaft loop that’s mounted next to the full-billet 47RE Competition Stage 2 automatic transmission built by Firepunk Diesel to handle the 6.7L engine’s output.
Rick has poured almost a decade of his spare time into building this rig and says, “This has been a labor of love for the last nine years. Endless nights and weekends working on the truck have brought me many new friends and helped me keep many old ones. One of my first road trips with my wife was to pick up this truck from a place 12 hours away from home.”
