SpongeBob SquarePants Gets Tanked in Custom Toyota Highlander
What lives in a pineapple in the back of a 2014 Toyota Highlander? SpongeBob SquarePants, apparently. Toyota unveiled the latest SpongeBob edition Highlander at the 2013 SEMA show, which now features an 800-gallon fish tank behind the rear seats.
Built with the help of the folks at Animal Planet's "Tanked," the 2014 Toyota Highlander SpongeBob: Tanked Edition features a massive custom-built aquarium inside that stretches from behind the two front seats to the tailgate. The Highlander's B- and C-pillars have been removed to better show off the fish tank, and the tailgate opens up to show SpongeBob (and the tank) in all its glory.
The 800-gallon tank features more than 32 species of saltwater fish, as well as SpongeBob, his pineapple house, Squidward's house, and a variety of Bikini Bottom landmarks. The custom built fish tank includes all the necessities to keep the Bikini Bottom ecosystem alive, including an overflow system, sterilizer, UV filter, and temperature regulator. The outside of the latest SpongeBob Highlander features a more subdued pant scheme than the last one, with SpongeBob's smiling face notably absent from the crossover's grille.
The 2014 Toyota Highlander SpongeBob Tanked Edition will be on display all week at the 2013 SEMA show before traveling to Los Angeles for an appearance at the L.A. auto show at the end of the month.
