Honda at SEMA 2019: Let's Go Overlanding! - #MTSEMA19
CR-V, CR-V Hybrid, and Ridgeline Head for the Hills
Honda looks like it wants to take its SUV and pickup lineup off-road, if its booth at the 2019 SEMA Show was any indication. Featuring a full fleet of overland- and racing-prepped SUVs, crossovers, and pickups, Honda at SEMA 2019 was a keen display of versatility, with one Acura SUV holding the high-performance line.
Honda Rally Passport
The most aggressive of its crossovers and pickups was the 2019 Honda Rally Passport, built earlier this year by an after-hours skunkworks of company engineers to explore the two-row SUV's capabilities. The Rally Passport conforms to the American Rally Association's Limited 4WD class rules, meaning it is mostly stock with a few key mods. Among these are Maxxis RAZR MT tires, a custom roll cage and safety equipment, a front skidplate and rear differential skidplate, and Carbotech brake pads with a hydraulic handbrake. In the Southern Ohio Forest Rally, the Passport took second in its class and twelfth overall, out of 75 vehicles.
Honda Ridgeline HFP Concept
Honda Factory Performance (HFP) offers a lineup of sporty and lifestyle accessories for the company's cars, but the division is also considering expanding its enhancements for the light-truck side of Honda. To wit: the Ridgeline HFP Concept. The Ridgeline HFP Concept includes already-available accessories like a roof rack, running boards, fender flares, a bed net, a bed extender, a roof basket, and black lug nuts with wheel locks. But it also includes HFP concept parts like 18-inch alloy wheels in bronze, a custom grille, rear emblems in bronze, and a SEMA-specific bronze decal. Thule partnered on the Ridgeline with a bed rack, tent, and Bed Bike fork-mount bike rack.
Honda CR-V "Dream" by Jsport Performance Accessories
Jsport Performance Accessories has been building hotted-up Honda sport-utes for a few years now, and for the 2019 SEMA Show they've turned their wrenches on the CR-V small SUV. This overland-inspired CR-V—called "Dream"—features the aftermarket company's 1.5-inch lift kit, "off-road-style" side steps, safari-style front bumper, rear swinging tire mount, and Plateau modular roof rack. The CR-V also receives Nitto Terra Grappler all-terrain tires, KMC off-road wheels, a Roofnest clamshell tent, and a rear cargo area organization cabinet with a fridge and work space. Honda says it's perfect for "self-reliant adventure travel."
Honda CR-V Hybrid "Do" by Jsport Performance Accessories
Hybrids and camping are a bit of a bizarre combination, but Jsport's other SEMA build, "Do," proves it's possible. This new-for-2020 CR-V Hybrid is given a rugged lease on life with Jsport's 1.5-inch lift kit, roof basket, and side steps, plus the same Nitto Terra Grappler tires and KMC wheels as the "Dream." A Cannondale mountain bike is ready for adventure, as are the CR-V Hybrid's various camping and hiking accouterment.
Acura RDX A-Spec Accessories Concept
Honda at SEMA 2019 wasn't just about off-roading. Acura has a long history of A-Spec performance models, the latest being the RDX SUV. The performance-oriented RDX is made even sportier with the A-Spec Accessories concept shown at SEMA 2019. The RDX gets Acura Genuine Accessories roof rails and cross bars, black lug nuts, and A-Spec-branded floormats and sill plates, plus a long list of concept goodies. The front bumper and side aero extensions receive stylish carbon fiber dress-up bits, and a new rear diffuser is constructed of the same stuff. The door sills, sideview mirrors, front grille, and tailgate also get carbon accents, while the front and rear get black chrome emblems. Dark-tinted 20-inch wheels contrast nicely with the paint-to-match Thule Alpine-style roof box.
