Like A Rock: 2003 Chevrolet Silverado Still Going at 790,000 Miles
Dealer Offers Couple $1,000 on Trade
Chevrolet likes to tout its reputation for having the “longest-lasting, most dependable trucks on the road,” and a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado SS traded in earlier this month in Missouri bears witness to that claim. A couple brought the truck in to trade for a 2011 Cadillac STS. When the dealer checked the odometer, he thought the reading was incorrect when it read 794,845 miles. The dealer that took the truck in trade claims it “still runs fine,” according to Automotive News. The current engine has more than 250,000 miles on it. The original engine was sold to a race car builder and was still running at the time with 500,000 miles.
How did the truck rack up so many miles over the last 12 years? The couple that owned the truck worked as an escort for trucks with oversized loads, resulting in lots of low-speed highway miles. The dealership said, when trying to calculate a valuation for the truck, there were no guidelines for vehicles with more than 200,000 miles, so the dealer offered the couple $1,000 for the truck, which they accepted. The dealer plans to sell the truck at auction because selling it to a retail customer would be “too embarrassing.” Click the link below to see an actual photograph of the odometer.
