Homegrown work trucks

Apr 24, 2015
Photographers: Readers
Alaskan Work Rig
Year/Make/Model: 2006 Dodge Ram 3500
Owner: Justin Pleier
Hometown: Wasilla, Alaska
Fuel Economy: 17 to 19 mpg
Engine: 5.9L Cummins I-6
Mods: 4.5-inch Tuff Country lift, 35-inch tires, DDP 90hp injector nozzles, EFILive tuning, Wicked Wheel 2 compressor wheel, South Bend Clutch SDD3250, and a home-built air intake
Owner says: “I have a lot more planned for the truck, including twin turbos, a FASS or AirDog fuel pump, head studs and fire rings, a flatbed, and a 5-inch turbo-back exhaust into twin 7-inch stacks. It recently dyno’d 503 hp and 1,023 lb-ft of torque. This truck is my welding truck for my business.”

Mr. Cummings’ Duramax
Year/Make/Model: 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 3500
Owner: Alex Cummings
Hometown: Billings, Montana
Odometer: 148,000 miles
Fuel Economy: 15 to 17 mpg
Engine: 6.6L Duramax V-8 LBZ
Transmission: Six-speed Allison 1000 with a TransGo Jr. Shift Kit
Mods: Hypertech tuner, 4-inch downpipe rear exhaust, lightbar, LED clearance lights, and smoked headlights and turn signals
Owner says: “I recently completed the 2014 Dustball Rally 2000 from Austin, Texas, to Chicago, Illinois, during which the truck ran a hard 4,500 miles round-trip from Montana and back with zero issues. The truck received some well-deserved praise running with the Porsches and the Ferrari F430 in the group. Rumor has it that this truck may have hit 130 mph on the trip. Future plans include EFILive tuning and a lift pump.”
