Ever wondered what happens to engines when they can't be rebuilt again? Some are lucky and will sit in a barn to get rusty with age for decades, but others engines meet their fate thanks to the "Red Giant." That's the nickname for the diesel-powered Hammel VB 950 DK primary shredder that weighs in at more than 50 tons. It's powered by a large-displacement 18.1L (1,104.5 ci) Caterpillar C18 Acert diesel engine tuned to make 710 hp, along with more than 2,000 lb-ft of torque that's multiplied via hydraulics to create a massive 324,527 lb-ft of twist that spins the shredder shafts at speeds up to 32 rpm. As you can see in the video, that's more than enough muscle to destroy a complete engine in seconds. Make sure to watch for the camshaft in the bottom right of the clip that tries to escape the killer teeth of the "Red Giant."
