An American Classic with a Juanky Twist

They say you are a product of your environment. For 35-year-old Landon Weiss of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, it all started from his childhood. He grew up in Flint, Michigan, the birthplace of thousands of vehicle brands. His family worked in manufacturing plants for GM, and his love for these American machines gradually matured along with him. "I bought my first classic truck when I was 16," Landon says with a smile, "I guess I wouldn't feel complete if I didn't have an old American truck."

Once relocated to Florida, Landon searched out local truck builders to get back on track with purchasing and building a custom truck. Landon came across Juanky Built, a shop located in Miami. Due to Juanky Ibarra's reputation of building the trucks for himself and then eventually selling his creations, Landon knew this was whom he wanted to build his truck. Juanky had recently purchased a '54 Chevy 3100 five-window, so when Landon saw the truck he brainstormed with Juanky and the build began.

Juanky chose to use a Chevy S10 frame because based on past experiences it would work perfectly. He added Spoon upper control arms and custom-made brackets up front and powdercoated the entire frame. The rear two-link was homemade inside Juanky's shop along with the custom bag bridge. The frame was fully boxed in to give the frame more stiffness for better handling. Juanky built custom brass knuckle handles inside the Chevy to control the air ride. On the other side of the steering wheel is a suicide jockey shifter also contoured into brass knuckles. Juanky's signature is to add a bottle opener on the outside of his builds, and the '54 was no different.
Juanky turned his attention to the motor adding a Chevrolet Performance crate engine that he purchased from Summit Racing. He added a Billet Specialties pulley set and aluminum valve covers. A B&M hammer head air cleaner was added for better airflow. Joe at Bullseye Powder Coating in Miami put on beige powdercoated accents. Rounding out the engine modifications are ceramic headers, an Edelbrock carburetor, and an HEI distributer.

When it came time to customize the interior, Juanky made sure everything was done right. Everything was painted beige, and East Coast Metal Works fabricated a custom bench seat. The door panels were matched to the seats. Copper tubing was run throughout the cabin to supply air to the valves. Dolphin gauges were added to the dashboard. JL Audio components and amplifiers were carefully hidden away. A Bluetooth module allows Landon to listen to anything off his phone. For the wheels, Juanky had Diesel Wheels machine the wheels and added his custom touch.
Landon wishes to thank his wife, Meredith, and, of course, Juanky and Ronald of Juanky Built in Miami, Clay's Pinstriping, Diesel Wheels, East Coast Metal Works, Bullseye Powder Coating, and everyone else who helped make this dream happen.
