A quick change of plans makes this 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 into a stunner

Couldn’t Leave Well Enough Alone

All truck builds start out in the same way. A couple of guys or gals are sitting around shooting the breeze and talking about what should be done to a truck one of them had just bought. Sometimes it can be just a small-scale improvement, other times it can be a full-blown transformation with every inch of the engine, body, and interior going under the knife. This build began with the former but soon became the latter.
Owner Cash Farmer had taken his ’06 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab to Devious Customs in Riverside, California, to get a set of ’bags installed so his truck could sit a little lower when needed. It didn’t take long for things to snowball. Jeff Davy (aka Mr. Devious) and Cash got to talking about what could be made of the ’06 with just a few touch-ups. It also helped that Devious had completed a few show-worthy Dodge Rams over the years, and have the distinction of completing the very first laid-out version of this body style back in the day. Cash then challenged the Devious crew to complete the truck in only three months, so he could be one of the many customs on display for Truckin magazine at SEMA 2014.
With the simple ’bag project having just gone out the window, a plan was created by Cash and Jeff to make this Ram into the kickass showpiece that it is today. Devious went to work in making this a true frame dragger by Z’ing the front frame, and relocating the upper arms, while a set of Devious upper arms with uniballs were installed and a set of RCD-developed Bilstein shocks were added to round out the front. The rear suspension received a custom four-link with Firestone ’bags going into a bag-on-bar setup courtesy of Devious, while another set of RCD Bilsteins handle the bumps of the road. A custom fuel cell was welded up in-house and installed skillfully by the capable hands of the Devious crew. Filling up the bags with stored air from two 5-gallon tanks is a set of Viair 480 compressors feeding an AccuAir Vu4 valve setup, with all the ups and downs handled by an Accu-Air E-Level system.

The 5.7 L Hemi V-8 was well capable of scooting the 1500 around at impressive speeds, but that didn’t stop Jeff from installing a Hypertech HyperPAC Power programmer as well as taking a one-off air intake and custom-fitting it so that it could clear the handbuilt inner fenders. Gibson headers and modified cat-back exhaust complete the road to horsepower.
Other areas of this build had to receive attention to make it sit the way it does, but the body will be where eyeballs get drawn to first and for good reason too. The leading edge of the Ram received a custom grille from Nu Image while it views the road through a set of Spyder Headlights, and to make the truck a little more aerodynamic the door handles were shaved off. The tailgate was replaced with a combo skin as well as taillight fillers from Grant Kustoms to make the entire bed seamless. Completing the appearance of a one-piece metal box is an ARE bed cover, which mimics the body lines and was color matched to the body. House of Kolor was called upon for a custom-mixed paint that was then shot by Robert Curiel (aka CaddyRobb) while the graphics were custom airbrushed by Jack VanGossen.
Inside the cab is a set of Cover King/Pecca leather seats installed by O.C. Autostyle with the rest of the cab color matched with black leather and suede. Some major decibels get their share of attention courtesy of the many CT Sounds components including four amps, four 15-inch subs, two 8-inch subs, four 6.5-inch components, and Kenwood head unit made all that sound go somewhere, while CT Sounds 0-gauge wiring and deadening mat were used throughout. Pacific Audio in Lakewood, California, capably handled the stereo install that filled the cab and spilled over into the bed.

All that good-looking sheetmetal and top-notch sounds has to roll around somehow, and that is taken care of through a set of 22x9 and 22x10 Hot Rod By Boyd (HRBB) Danville wheels with charcoal ceramic centers and brushed outers that have the same skull motif custom airbrushed. Rubber meets the road in the form of 285/30/R22 Continental Extreme Contact DWS.
While in the beginning it wasn’t the plan to have a fully customized show truck, it didn’t take long to get there, and SEMA was not the end of the road for the Ram. Just days before out photo shoot, Cash and Jeff decided that the previously matte finish was being changed to gloss. We’re pretty sure we left some fingerprints in the clear rolling it into the photo studio!
