The Garage Editorial – Step Up

Oct 29, 2015
Photographers: Monica Gonderman
It's a new year, and I have a goal for you. I know this is not how it works. Resolutions are normally imposed on oneself rather than others, but this goal involves both of us. Are you ready for this? I want you to be in 8-Lug. Yes, you. I want your truck to be in the Bragging Rights readers’ rides section, if not featured.
Don't give me this “my truck sucks” nonsense, or put it off because your rig isn’t finished. First off, your truck doesn't suck. Second, what truck is ever finished? I’m just like you. I've got a nice midpack custom truck that may end up in the background of show coverage or that may sneak its hood into an overall group shot. That's it. But we make up the bulk of the scene. We're the 95 percenters who make shows possible, keep aftermarket businesses alive, and dream of being good enough to make it in the magazine. We don’t have to worry about missing awards at a show because the chances are not good.
And you know what? I don't know about you, but I wouldn't have it any other way. My truck is mine, it means a lot to me, and I have fun. It's my truck, my way. There are two lessons in life that will make things a lot easier, and the earlier you can understand them, the better: Life is not fair, and someone's truck will always be better than yours.
With that being said, it's still time for your truck to make it in the magazine. This isn’t a pity party. Whether your truck is near stock or deserving of the cover, trucks in general are cool. We all have varying budgets, ambitions, and resources, and many of us have family and work obligations. But at the end of the day, we’re supposed to be a community that supports each other. I want to support you wherever you are in your project buildup journey.
I can't wait until my inbox is flooded with your cool trucks. One of the few things that will prevent you from seeing your truck in the magazine is if you can't get us a good photo or the information we need…or if you don’t have an HD truck, of course. Otherwise, anticipate making the magazine in 2016. It’ll make your day…and mine, too!
Until next time,
Monica

Bragging Rights Submissions
Take a few good, quality, high-resolution photos of your truck. We’re talking 2 to 3MB, at least. This is a great time to put forth maximum effort by cleaning your truck and setting up your own mini photo shoot.
