The Top 10 Stories on Truck Trend In 2015

The Most Clickable Stories of the Year

Dec 29, 2015
It’s always interesting to look back at what happened over the past year. And besides, the news dead-zone that typically happens between Christmas and New Year’s gives us ample time to compile our annual Top 10 list. Here are our biggest hits of the past year by page views. So keep clicking and enjoy.
1) 2016 Nissan Titan XD
Although it may not have won our 2016 Pickup Truck of the Year competition, there’s no disputing that there was a huge amount of interest in the 2016 Nissan Titan XD. It seems a great deal of interest in the truck was centered on its optional 5.0L Cummins turbodiesel V-8. The prospect of owning a Cummins for less than Ram commands for its HD models equipped with the 6.7L I-6 seems to appeal to a lot of buyers.

2) Sin City Hustler Combines Excursion Limo, Monster Truck
This is the winning post that almost didn’t get written. When we read the release, we thought it was almost too ridiculous for words. However, in the upside-down world of the Interwebs, the more crazy, inane, or ridiculous something is, the greater its likelihood for success. We took a gamble on the Sin City Hustler, and it paid off handsomely for us by being the second most-popular story for the Truck Trend Network for the year.

3) SEMA 2015 – Day One Feature Trucks Coverage
There’s something to be said for being “first.” That was certainly the case for us for our 2015 SEMA Show coverage. Getting our day one coverage up quickly paid off in pageviews, giving us a record November. Even other SEMA stories couldn’t catch up to our first-day coverage.

4) The 2008 Chevy Silverado Blowermax
This truck had win written all over it from the start. From the head-turning visual of a custom clamshell hood, to a custom compound turbo-and-supercharged 7.1L Duramax diesel with 80-plus psi of boost, and trick bypass exhaust stacks. At first glance, there’s nothing spectacular about this truck, but a closer look reveals mind-boggling attention to detail and trick custom features.

5) 6.4L Problems
It may not have the disastrous reputation as its 6.0L predecessor, but the 6.4L Power Stroke diesel V-8 was not exactly trouble-free either. The engine had a nasty reputation for oil dilution due to fuel blow-by. Other gremlins included chafe-prone wiring, water accumulation in the fuel, and condensation buildup in the intercooler.

6) 10 Best Used Diesel Trucks (and cars)
In the U.S., diesels are a relatively rare breed, limited primarily to HD trucks and a few German passenger cars. Even among this elite group, there are a few standouts that are especially worth considering if you can find one. We give a rundown of the most desirable diesel trucks and cars of the past two decades. A few of our picks might surprise you.

7) A 2013 Ram 1500 Single Cab That Went from Idea to Reality
This Ram 1500 turns heads for its unusual configuration and customization, and we’re not just talking about it being a single cab, which in this day and age is rare enough in itself. Owner Brian Fields really cranked up the individuality factor by narrowing the rear bed and putting on dually flared rear fenders. Adding to the visual interest is a prerunner-style bed-mounted spare tire.

8) Toyota Reveals “Back to the Future” Tacoma Tribute
Without a doubt, one of the major cinematic-related events of 2015 was the 30th anniversary of Back to the Future. Although Toyota made a half-hearted attempt at a BTTF-tribute Tacoma once before, with an incorrect beige color, this time, the company redeemed itself with detail-correct black 2016 Tacoma, complete with KC Hilites lighting, tri-color taillights, “Toyota” block lettering on the tailgate, BF Goodrich raised white letter tires, and “4WD” mudflaps. It seems like Truck Trend readers liked it just as much as we did.

9) 2015 SEMA Full Show Mega Gallery
With the success of the first day feature gallery, we figured if a little SEMA was good, more would be better. We were not disappointed. Although our cumulative catch-all Mega Gallery couldn’t top the first day coverage, the hundreds of photos still got it plenty of clicks to get on our Top 10 list for the year.

10) 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Duramax and 2500HD Vortec – Gas vs. Diesel
There are just some rivalries that never get old. Ford versus Chevy, Cummins versus Power Stroke, and of course, gas versus diesel. For years, a story written way back in 2002 was consistently in our Top 10 rankings, despite being well before many of the advancements and developments in the modern diesel market. We followed up on the success of that original post with several more gas versus diesel posts but struck internet gold with the trifecta of “Chevrolet Silverado,” “Duramax,” and “Gas vs. Diesel.”
