Often, you fall in love with a project you are building, and after it’s completed and the owner takes it away, you’re left with a void inside. This was the case for 34-year-old Gerald Ashe from Seffner, Florida. One local truck enthusiast, Gregg Savoie, had recently purchased a ’94 Toyota pickup and immediately enlisted Ashe to bodydrop the new mini. He had plenty of experience rebuilding entire trucks from the ground up, which made Savoie’s decision easier. Halfway through the work, Ashe started loving the way the frame and body came together. He woke up every morning excited to see the Toyota and work on it.

The work was completed. And with a heavy heart, Ashe returned the truck to the owner. They would run into each other throughout the next few months and at local shows, and Ashe would ask about the truck. At one point, Savoie bought a larger truck and was focusing more attention on it. Ashe jumped at the chance to try to buy the Toyota, and offered to purchase it. Finally, Ashe got back the truck that got away. He immediately reworked the entire truck in his garage, starting with the engine to make sure the mini would turn over every time.

He wishes to thank his parents and all the friends who helped when he needed it. Special thanks to Mike Barcia, Chris Moodie, Chris White, and of course, Savoie for selling him the truck that he couldn’t live without.
