Diesel Power Challenge 2016 - Nathan Stacy

Nathan Stacy’s ’07 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD was in pieces just a few short weeks before it was time to head out to Diesel Power Challenge 2016. However, despite that situation, Nate (he’s cool with us calling him that) and his three very knowledgeable and fast-working crewmembers worked some long nights and blurred weekends to put the truck together and get on the road to Denver, Colorado.
Nathan built his truck to have a split personality; he wants a very reliable daily driver that gets decent fuel economy on the street and, with the switch of a tune, he wants to unleash all the power and torque the truck’s 6.6L Duramax LBZ engine makes.

At only 20 years old, Nathan’s no stranger to diesel performance, having built a few Cummins and Duramax engines in the past. But, he admits, none of those powerplants were as detailed as this 6.6L. The Duramax is highlighted by a Wehrli Custom Fabrication–built compound-turbocharger system that features God Speed Turbo Innovations’ BorgWarner S468 (68mm) and S488 (88mm) ’chargers, a Mishimoto intercooler, Exergy Performance 200-percent-over injectors and two CP3 injection pumps, and a shot of additional air from Nitrous Oxide Systems’ single-stage nitrous-oxide unit.
Despite Nate’s experience and all the modifying that has been done to his truck in preparation for DPC 2016, a funny thing happened right before he was announced as a competitor. “I was at work and had my phone on silent because we were in a safety meeting,” Nathan says, “and [fellow competitor] Travis Koller messaged me on Facebook to give me the good news! KJ named all the winners online, and I didn’t have a chance to check before Travis told me.”
Nate says his Silverado’s build sheet actually changed multiple times in the hopes that he’s found the right formula to bring home the First Place trophy. While he’s a top competitor (like everyone in the DPC Class of 2016), he says he is really just honored to be a part of the select few that will throw down in Denver. To hear him talk about it, it sounds like he’s really looking forward to joining the other competitors and just having a blast in the Mile High City.

Nathan Stacy’s ’07 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD definitely brings a max-effort 6.6L Duramax engine to Diesel Power Challenge 2016. The powerplant showcases the compound-turbocharging talents of Wehrli Custom Fabrication, which mounted and plumbed the engine’s God Speed Turbo Innovations–prepared BorgWarner S468 and S488 ’chargers. The 6.6L also features Exergy Performance 200-percent-over injectors, a Mishimoto intercooler, ProFab Performance exhaust manifolds and up-pipes, and an MBRP exhaust system. EFILive tuning by Rittenhouse Performance Diesel.

Smoked headlights help the Silverado keep a low profile and definitely add style points.

While Nate put a lot of thought and planning into the performance of his truck, the interior remains mostly stock, save for the addition of a few gauges and removal of the rear bench seat.

A bed-mounted exhaust stack helps spent gases exit the easy way, and it’s another subtle custom touch that gives Nate’s rig both form and function.

Nate lowered his rig using Belltech lowering and dialed in the truck’s smooth ride with Bilstein 5100 Series shocks. Traction is enhanced by Wehrli Custom Fabrication’s suspension stops and traction bars.
