Indulgence

For most enthusiasts and builders, the phrase, “Happy wife, happy life,” rings a resounding truth, especially when the four letter word “SEMA” is thrown into the mix. More often than not, this combination has quite the effect on the length of build sheets and the size of project fleets one is allowed to amass. A less common situation, though, is one in which the prospect of another new build is the key to keeping the wife happy. Nevertheless, this was the case for Melinda Moore, her husband Jake, and her 2015 Chevy Tahoe LTZ build. Her beloved, lifted beauty has just the right amount of beast added to the mix. Aptly named “Indulgence,” Melinda’s Tahoe is the culmination of a patiently applied and artfully curated taste and style, proving even the Truckin’ world can greatly benefit from a woman’s touch.

Jake owns and operates Garage Werks Automotive Specialties of Plano, Texas, and has spent the better part of two decades building countless custom rides for his clients and himself. His wife and partner in crime Melinda also hold a deep passion for the automotive industry, particularly the custom-truck scene. After the years and endless projects passing through their doors, Melinda decided the time had come. She wanted her own, totally unique to her custom truck. One that would serve as a showstopper and daily hauler. Falling in love with the Tahoe and Suburban redesigned trucks, she settled her choice on a new Tahoe and informed Jake of her plans. Naturally, he was thrilled at getting the green light on an exciting new build. However, his excitement was quickly dashed to pieces. His first inclination was to build a beast dropped on ’bags, but she had other ideas, which certainly took precedence. If it was going to be her build, it was going to be built her way, lifted, loud, fast, and boosted. After all, it was her Indulgence, not his.

Jake and his team at Garage Werks set out building the Tahoe, partnering with McGaughys Suspension for its quality lift components. To begin, McGaughys 9-inch lift-kit was coupled with one-off matching four-links in the rear. Together with the custom rear setup, Icon Reservoir Coilovers and Eibach Springs stretched the McGaughys kit to a full 12 inches. All of the top-line components were powdered in Prismatic Champagne, matching the Tahoe’s graphics for a bespoke finish. In contrast, the chassis was sprayed a clean Satin Black. Beneath the shimmering suspension rolls a wheel setup that features a shimmering set of fully polished American Force Ambush wheels with polished windows wrapped in aggressive TOYO Tires Open Country MT 37s.

Providing a much-needed boost to the massive rollers is the now infamous Procharger P-1SC. The combo makes a healthy 527hp, which is announced through a full Borla Exhaust system. For all the growl Indulgence provides, and then some, she also still has the looks to break a few hearts. The OEM color, Sable Metallic was left in place as a perfect canvas on which to customize. The Tahoe’s grille, mirror caps, chrome trim, and headlight bezels were all color matched to create a smooth base layer. The Champagne graphics were custom painted by Darren Wenzel of Gasoline Art. Highlighted with Rich Plum, the graphics were designed to match Melinda’s own tattoos and personal taste. Brian Vastine of Vastine Paint finished the custom spray with a clear coat and the color Sand, which brings out the rich tones and eccentric details. NCS and Standox Paint Products were the paint supplies of choice to bring this subtle, yet deadly, paint scheme to life.

The interior is every bit as beautiful as the exterior, truly accentuating the show quality of Indulgence. For an immersive experience, a full audio system soothes even the hungriest of beasts. Steve Brown at Alpine helped to select the 9-inch Touch Screen Navigation X009U head unit. Jake Moore fully customized and rebuilt the dash around the custom head unit, color matched to the body. The state-of-the-art Alpine unit sends signal through a PXAH800 Processor, along with two PDRM65 and two PDRF50 amplifiers. The sound is pumped through two SPR50C and two SPR60C speakers and four PDR series subs. Additionally, the system uses an Alpine PKG DVD System with a 10-inch screen. The entire system uses Stinger Wiring, and powering all this electronic magic is a pair of Kinetik HC1400 batteries and a HC2400.

Coupling with the technological luxury comes upholstery and carpentry of like caliber. The seats are all swathed in Alea Coco Leather, with progressive double diamond stitching in a Dune color, matched to the dash. The carpet was swapped out for a Coco-colored variety, matching the seats and completing a complementary interior palette. The custom subwoofer boxes and battery rack were wrapped with Alea Coco, too, to finish off the look. After its completion, Melinda’s Indulgence has made her rounds, displayed at SEMA for the Kinetik power booth, Lone Star Throwdown, DUB Nation, Turkey Drag, and many others, winning trophies for Best Graphics, Best SUV on a number of occasions, Best of Show, and several Top 50 awards. All in all, Indulgence is a fully formed and extremely well rounded show truck, with daily driven build quality, unique and elegant styling, and just the right kind of attitude to make it a Truckin’ star.
