1999 Chevy Silverado Named Silvy
Brother Knows Best
A brother’s influence can play a big role in your life plans. For 29-year-old Bo McElwee of Shreveport, Louisiana, that’s precisely how his love for trucks started. His older brother Dustin owned custom trucks growing up, and Bo latched on quickly, wanting to be around his brother. The two would take long cruises in a custom Chevy during weekends, and before long, Bo’s desires for his own truck were increasing. When he reached driving age, Bo’s father purchased the custom Chevy from Dustin and gave it to Bo as his first vehicle.
Bo’s passion increasingly grew throughout the years, and eventually, he bought and built a custom mini-truck, complete with a paint style that he was proud of. Due to a conflict in Bo’s schedule, he took a brief break from trucks and sold his mini. But after a year, he was itching to get right back into it. He began looking for custom trucks online and came across a 1999 Chevy Silverado that resembled his custom mini and had the same color. Dustin and Bo went to inspect the truck, and before long, Bo was right back into the mix. Although the exterior and interior needed some TLC, Bo knew the direction he wanted to go. He brought the truck to Kyle Carter at KC Kustoms, and they both did a complete color change, keeping the blue that he liked so much in the graphics. Although the truck came completely ’bagged, Bo reworked the entire airbag setup to make it meet more of his creative design. Bo updated the cracking interior with a newer upgraded style with black leather and carbon-fiber inserts from Katzkin. He added a center console stereo system that featured Pioneer and Kicker components worth bragging about. Although he purchased the truck complete and customized, it wasn’t long before he had gone through and touched every aspect of the truck, making it show worthy in the process.
Bo wishes to thank his brother Dustin for all his guidance and knowledge throughout his journey, his wife Nikki and their two amazing children, Gabe and Harper. For the help with the build, he wishes to thank Kyle Carter for a masterful job with the paint and Robert Miller for help with all the bodywork. He credits his Eksessiv truck club with the motivation to make Silvy better than ever.
