Just when you thought elections were behind us, here’s one more opportunity to cast a vote. No, you’re not choosing a world leader or a team captain. After perusing the following lineup of candidates, your vote, if you choose to cast one, will help establish a field of competitors for the 13th annual Diesel Power Challenge, held June 4, 2017 through June 9, 2017, in Denver, Colorado.
For those of you who aren’t hip to what DPC is, the weeklong competition is our annual performance and endurance test for diesel-powered vehicles (usually pickup trucks) and their drivers and crews. The 10 competitors will be comprised of 2016 champion Charlie Keeter and his ’04 Ford F-250, plus a group of nine challengers that your votes will determine. Diesel Power Challenge’s six competitive and exciting segments include: dyno testing (for combined power and torque), evaluating a vehicle’s fuel consumption and driveability, jockeying a loaded trailer (10,000 pounds) through an obstacle course, towing that same trailer down the eighth-mile for the quickest elapsed time, heads-up quarter-mile drag racing, and sled pulling.
The hopper of hopeful contestants, from which three will be chosen as representatives for each brand, is led by the Dodge Ram/Cummins contingent (21 entries). Ford and Power Stroke faithful have 18 trucks and drivers to select three from, and fans of Duramax-powered GM rigs will use a small, but plenty capable lot of six to compile their trio.
Although you can send us an unlimited number of ballots, on each individual slip you’re only allowed to vote once for each truck, and each selection must be made on the official DPC ballot form that you’ll find at the end of this report (sorry, no photocopies, photos, faxes, emails, or Snapchats of the ballot will be accepted).
