2005 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9L Cummins: Diesel Power Challenge Competitor Kevin Jacob
DPC Competitor Kevin Jacob
When we asked Kevin Jacob how he feels about being selected for Diesel Power Challenge 2017 Presented by XDP, this is the response he gave us: “I am pretty excited to be able to come out and compete. It will be great to see how my truck stacks up against the others.”
Like a lot of his competition, Kevin spent the weeks leading up to DPC 2017 getting everything ready to make the westward trek from his home state of Wisconsin to Colorado’s Rocky Mountains, including rebuilding the transmission and torque converter in his ’05 Dodge Ram 2500, which failed after Kevin increased the truck’s horsepower and torque output to an estimated 900 hp and 1,600 lb-ft.
Kevin also set some of his main rig’s prep aside to work on his support vehicles, ensuring they would be ready for the 1,000-mile trip. Before heading out, he installed a new front end on the tow truck and put new tires and brakes on his gooseneck trailer. After doing all the repairs, any remaining time was used “attempting to make more money to support my trip,” Kevin says.
Being only “slightly” confident about winning, Kevin says, “I’m looking to be reliable, and hopefully that will put me at the top or close to it. My truck is not a powerhouse, but that makes it less likely to have a major breakage.”
Kevin’s game plan for Diesel Power Challenge 2017 Presented by XDP is “staying calm and collected” when competing so that he can try to maintain an edge over his competition. He hopes that having sled-pulling experience works in his favor and helps him in the points chase. The Eighth-Mile Trailer Tow segment gives him the most concern, because he doesn’t really know what to expect when trying to pull a trailer as fast as possible for an eighth of a mile.
Kevin plans on enjoying his week in Denver with his team and fellow competitors. Win or lose, running or broken, he sums it all up with one final statement: “Party on, Wayne.”
