2006 Dodge Ram 2500: Diesel Power Challenge Competitor Levi Krech
DPC Competitor Levi Krech
As the alternate competitor for Diesel Power Challenge 2017 Presented by XDP, Levi Krech makes the jaunt from Wyoming to Colorado with no guarantee he will get a chance to compete. He could spend the week just being a spectator, but when asked about it, his answer was, “It is a dream come true and an honor to be selected.”
As it is for any other competitor at DPC 2017, getting ready takes dedication. Levi says he spent “a lot of time and hard work making sure the truck was correct,” in the event he moves up from the alternate ranks and into the main event.
Levi calls his ’06 Dodge Ram “a well-oiled machine that is built to go all out.” Fleece Performance Engineering destroked the truck’s 6.7L Cummins engine to 6.4L, and the powerplant gets its fuel through 200-percent-over injectors that are fed by dual Fleece CP3 injection pumps and an AirDog II-4G 165-gph lift pump. Boost is supplied by compounded BorgWarner S467 and S488 turbochargers, which draw air through an S&B cold-air-intake setup, before a Spearco intercooler does its job on the air headed to the intake manifold. With an EFILive programmer and tuning by Fleece, the 6.4L engine is capable of making 1,250 hp and 2,200 lb-ft of torque.
Of course, having all that power does not do any good without a proper suspension setup. So, Levi lowered the truck and installed Bilstein shocks and CalTracs traction bars to make sure the power gets to the ground. Nitto NT tires mounted on 22x12 Fuel Lethal wheels provide the grip.
Levi hopes to put all the horsepower and torque to good use on the dyno, as it is the event he is most excited about. “I have been learning from some of the best guys in the industry,” he says. There is always a chance he will get to compete, and if he does we will be able to see what he and his truck can do against the DPC 2017 field. And if that chance does arise, Levi says, “We will definitely be going all out!”
