Diesel Power Challenge 2017 Competitor Rich Strube
’05 GMC Sierra 3500HD, 6.6L Duramax V-8
Rich Strube’s ’05 GMC Sierra 3500HD cuts an imposing profile, thanks to its lifted stance and dualie fenders. But unlike the outsized truck, Rich himself is a humble, friendly guy who is “incredibly surprised and extremely thankful” to be selected for Diesel Power Challenge 2017 Presented by XDP.
As for his truck’s chances at winning the whole event, Rich is confident. “The truck is built for everything we plan to engage in,” he says. “I’m hoping the small, single variable-geometry turbocharger allows us to be consistent and spool quickly in the high altitude.”
Consistency also describes Rich’s personal talent, as he is a seasoned drag racer, occasional sled puller, and experienced diesel mechanic. He’s also a trailer jockey, having towed a 40-foot trailer for a total of 300,000 miles and counting.
In order to prepare for DPC 2017, Rich upgraded the GMC’s fuel system with 150-percent-over injectors by Dynomite Diesel, added Mishimoto elements to the cooling system, and threw a Yukon Gear & Axle Grizzly locker underneath the truck. Danville Performance does the ECM tuning. In order to extract every last bit of performance from his truck, Rich says he’ll be coming to Denver with “plenty of nitrous, thanks to XDP and Nitrous Express.”
Will Rich be able to take home the coveted First Place trophy? While nothing is certain, combining his generalized skillset with what he thinks is a well-rounded truck could be the recipe for success.
