2013 Ford F-350: Harley-Davidson Tribute Truck
The Big Hog
If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then we know the crew at 8 Lug Customs in West Park, Florida, must be big fans. Equally intrigued with the title of the magazine and lifted trucks, owner Julio Paez, shop manager Jorge Martinez, and fabricator Adalberto Cabeza have been turning out cool custom vehicles for a long time. Julio originally started with Mustangs but switched to lifted trucks about the time that 8-Lug magazine hit the market. Big trucks and the right name were the perfect business combination. The crew is highly versatile, taking on six-door projects, new interiors, upgraded suspensions, engine swaps, and more, with a significant backlog of customer vehicles awaiting their talents.
This beautiful orange and black ’13 Ford F-350 Super Duty began as Julio’s personal ride. It was actually a theft recovery truck and was purchased at an auction. Although it was in humble condition, Julio had a Harley-Davidson theme in mind to rejuvenate the old ride and commemorate the Harley-Davidson Edition F-Series trucks. A trip to the local Harley dealer was the first source of inspiration.
Thoroughness is one of the key elements of every build at 8 Lug Customs, so the project began with everything being taken everything apart and powdercoating the stripped chassis in satin black. Since a pavement-gripping stance was the goal, lowered DJM I-beams up front and dropped rear leaf spring hanger brackets brought the truck closer to the asphalt. For a special touch, Julio used a rear axle from an F-250, equipped with F-350 adapters that positioned the dual wheels properly in relation to the rear fenders. Custom rear tubs were fabricated to accommodate a set of American Force 26-inch wheels, custom engraved with the Harley-Davidson logo and wrapped in 305/30R26 Zenna Argus-UHP rubber. Powering the truck is a new 6.7L Power Stroke crate motor and automatic transmission, already quick enough in stock form.
Once the cab, bed, and front end were reunited with the chassis, work began on the interior. It was an exercise in “people pampering,” beginning with an all-new factory black leather package that was accented with Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle logos on the seats, center console, and floormats. All the original wood trim inside was painted satin black to blend with the Harley theme. The stereo uses the factory Ford head unit, augmented by a pair of Rockford Fosgate amps underneath the backseat. They power a speaker mix that consists of separated JL Audio components in the doors and a pair of 12-inch JL Audio subs behind the rear seatback. The combination of attention to detail, clean imagery, and studio-quality sound production makes this truck the perfect road trip ride.
Exterior modifications begin with chrome sport tubes on the rocker panels. The Screamin’ Eagle theme appears throughout, most notably on the Rhino Liner bed wall and in the Silver Pearl separation line between the beautiful PPG Harley Orange and black two-tone paintjob. Sprayed by Joe Zamora of Zamora Paint & Body in Hollywood, Florida, the eye-catching paint looks deep enough to swim in. Joe even disassembled the headlights and carried the paintjob underneath the lenses. Providing the ultimate nighttime illumination, a Recon lightbar was fitted to the chromed and painted grille. Final details include H-D crests added to the exhaust tip and bumper hitch.
This low-riding mechanical art piece is amazing. Everywhere it goes, it gets more attention than the Swedish Bikini Team handing out free beers! It took quick eight months to build, and Julio hardly had a chance to enjoy his creation, thanks to a customer who put down a deposit before it was even complete. Fortunately, the fun is in the building process, and Julio was on to the next unique creation from 8 Lug Customs.
8 Lug Customs garage is the place to go for lifted and slammed eight-lug rides.
With the local Harley-Davidson dealership in the background, the bright orange and black ’13 Ford F-350 was right at home. Harley accents were incorporated throughout the build.
Voluptuous rear fender extensions, a set of highly polished 26-inch American Force dualie wheels, and 30-series rubber give this truck the perfect look. Could you buy a Harley-Davidson Edition Super Duty dualie? Yes—bonus points if you know the year: 2009…and it was an F-450.
Although most of the truck’s classic lines were retained, paint upgrades, along with selective chroming and a new LED lightbar, make this one a standout.
In addition to the Screamin’ Eagle logo in the silver paint separation line, the ground-hugging dualie sports authentic Harley accents on the exhaust tip and tow hitch.
Continuing the Harley theme, the massive 26-inch American Force wheels feature custom-engraved Harley-Davidson and Screamin’ Eagle text.
A Screamin’ Eagle stencil was applied to the forward bed wall before it was sprayed with black Rhino Liner.
An all-new Ford factory black leather package was installed, accented with Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle logos on the seats, center console, and floormats. Black trim continues the theme.
Using a factory Ford head unit, the 8 Lug team added Rockford Fosgate amps underneath the backseat and JL Audio components in the doors, with subs located behind the rear seat.
